A similar suggestion came to me yesterday and I think it would be nice to create a topic exclusively for complaints or negative comments. I just need to think of a creative name for it. Suggestions? A name of "fouled plug" was given, but Snowest already uses that one, so would like to come up with something different.

The all the rules of the board will remain (ie. no political/religious posts and no bashing). Plenty of other sites on the internet for that, but I recognize the need and therapy that venting gives, just would like to confine it to a topic that is dedicated to it.

So open to suggestions. Squeaky Wheels? Whine List?... I don't know.

-John

Seems like most are in favor of "Whine" so how about "The Whine Cellar" That way it refers to this dark, dank place where most people would not want to go. Enter at your own risk! :)

I think the site should be left as it is. Everyone comes here because of the great site John has developed . Everyone knows that if you want info on sledding, lodging, trail conditions, sleds, just about anything snowmobile related, this is the site to come to, especially if you want Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota info. I think John has a very good reputation to go along with this site. I would not want to see Johns reputation, or the reputation of this site, tarnished because of a "Cry Baby" section. People will read the crying here and repeat it on other sites saying, "I read this crap, or that crap on John Dee". I don't like the idea of this site being a place to go for you latest problems. Come here for the good news, go to some other site to do your crying.

That's my .02 Now get out and enjoy the snow while you can!

I agree 100%, however, if the masses are into having a "special" place to do their whining, call it Pandora's Box. Most will not want to open it, or will they? Hmmm.......-Mezz

I would call it "Romper Room" because that is what it would turn into....

Well, I am still going to give any action on my part a bit more time, but right now what seems to resonate best with me is to not create a separate topic for whining, but rather add a new rule against blatant whining. There will be a rather large gray area with this rule and I think at least at first I will not ask the other moderators to worry about things and just let me handle things they way I would like the board to go.

This way persons can still give an honest trail report and talk about any poor sections (and hopefully report on the good too!), but yet the posts that are just a pure rant and provide no useful information will be deleted and hopefully will start a trend to a more positive vibe on the board.

Again, this is the current thinking, but will let all the ideas simmer for a bit.

I did like a lot of the title suggestions! Especially Yellow Snow and Romper Room!

Creating the 'no whiners rule' will definitely make more work for yourself though.

No doubt. But that and the few that disregard the rule and get their nose out of joint because their post removed, are the only two minor collateral damage done, where as the other two options could lead to a lot of collateral damage.

Plus, it may take a little bit, but I think once the rule is around for a while, the amount of posts crossing the line will drop off. That has been the case with all the other rules.

Despite the strong opinions given by some on the board and the clashing of some of the opinions, I still think most visitors to the board follow the rules very well and I thank everyone for that!

Nope. ..not at all. In fact I was not referring to your post. My meaning was "let's not create the section let's keep the board positive."
Sorry if I offended.
Thanks for the reply, and no offense taken. Its just the rule book is starting to read a little fuzzy on here, and I'm just trying to stay out of trouble. Most of my posts are meant with the best of intentions.;)
You guys, (John and the mod squad) are doing a great job.

I’m also on board with no new forum. It was pretty fun to think about though and the possibility sure showed the creativity of the members.</SPAN>

If all the threads/posts were purely informational, it would probably get a little boring so adding a little salsa from time to time is not necessarily a bad thing, as long as the current rules are not blatantly violated. As many have indicated, they simply avoid threads that don’t appear to be of interest to them. Then there is always the “ignore” option.</SPAN>

Even when threads/posts appear to have minimal merit (or even a point) it seems to me that the members are for the most part a kind group and show considerable restraint in criticizing or ridiculing a thread/post. (well, except maybe for the thread started by “Happy101” a couple of years back that took a shot at the value of Indy-500’s posts. He or she was pretty much barbequed, never to post another thread). Kind of ironic that the member name was “Happy101”.</SPAN>
