memory cards

I got my christmas present early, I purchased a Canon eos T1i camera, I was wondering if there is a difference in memory cards? I see the 8 gig cards for $19.00 to $40.00 they look the same but I'm sure there must be a difference. My manual didn't say anything regarding these that I saw.. Thoughts?

Ask the retailer you bought it from. My wife just got her Sony SLT-A33 early as well. Wish I could remember what the guy said, but there was something that separated the cheaper from the more expensive one's. Not sure if it had to do with HD or what....., but there was something. Now you've got me thinking......

imo you need the more expensive cards especially for that camera, I have the same camera and I have run both cards. it doesnt make a diff if you are just shooting stills but unless you have an HC card the video wont write on the card as fast as you are taking it. there are different classes on cards the lower the class the lower quality and transfer speed and obviously price

Buy a card with the fastest access time possible. If you are doing bursts of shots and have a slower speed card you will have the camera stop shooting and display "saving images". I am thinking a $40 8gb card may still be too slow especially for that camera.

Downloading them does not remove them from the card, they still need to be deleted. Search your menu on camera for "erase all" or go to "formatting" in settings and select "format memory card", this will erase everything on card.

Do you guys know which are high speed, I'm not sure what HC means. I got the camera from beach camera in NJ and it came with a card, I just want a back up.

Look at the "class" of card. The higher the number the faster the card is. The cheaper cards are probably a "class 2" card. With that camera I would go with a "class 6" card. The speed of the card will help with taking "burst mode" shots (lots pics in a row), and with video recording. I would also go with multiple 8GB cards. That way you have a less of a chance of loosing pictures from a card going bad. If you have a card you can look on the card for a circle with a number in it. That will give you the type of class of card that it is.

Hope some of this helps.
