Mercer Area Conditions

I heard Mercer got 9" of snow overnight last night so figure we could start the thread for Mercer for season. I saw some pics of the swamps and man it looked like a lot of water that is going to need a lot of cold weather to freeze up. Seems like the last few winters water has been a major problem in the north woods with warm wet falls!

I know that they have been out rolling trails. And was told they were riding sleds through the swamps to pack the snow and help freeze them up.

Ryan if nobody chimes in here, check out the Mercer facebook page and Hurley thunder riders page. They have been giving up dates on all the trails on both pages. You may already follow them for all I know, just letting you know if not!

Yeah John's forecast this morning does not look too promising. My WeatherBug app on my phone is still calling for all snow this weekend for Mercer. I am guessing it is still too far out for them to know what is going to happen. Unfortunately I think I need to make my reservations now rather than later.... what to do what to do?

Jim at Dear Lodge organizes the marking of the flowage. According to his report on Snowtracks, they hope to mark it on the 28th.

Well... How bad are things now?
Still ok for group of 10 to head up on Thursday & hit the trails?
Gateway Lodge will be the home base, I'm guessing have to ride north from there?
Thanks!

A lady I know is up there now, and says trails are good.
I think good is a bit of a stretch. I am in Manitowish Waters now. Headed out for a quick ride this morning just to check things out. From what I have heard and seen it is pretty hardpack with very little snow on top. The further north the better. I will try to update after I get out today. Mercer is probably ok but your going to want to definately ride north from there.

Rode about 100 miles in the Mercer area today. Trails were excellent but were beat up by late afternoon. However, just passed the groomer on trail 2 outside Boulder Junction. Bartender at Boulder Beer Bar said they'll be grooming all night.
LOTS of sleds out!!

Yes. Light snow in the late afternoon and it's snowing now. Probably 2-3 inches of new snow fell today and another 2 on the way overnight.
