MI Snowmobile Registration Decal

Yeah, and let's all drive 55 m.p.h. down the expressway because that's what the speed limit sign and the law says..............................................................

Because we wouldn't want to risk getting a ticket..................

If you're cool with risking getting a ticket, more power to ya....but if/when you get a ticket, accept it without complaint and don't claim that the cops are picking on you, when you knowingly and willingly broke the law.

I have a new Yamaha Vector and have not put the MI registration on the hood yet. The paint job is too beautiful to put the decal on it and I would like to place it lower on the hood where the finish is kinda "stippled".
Will this surface hold the registration decal?
What else should I do to insure that it stays on?
That rough surface will not hold the sticker. I'm on my second $45.00 sticker already this year.:(
I have a sled wrap and had hoped to not put the sticker on the wrap.

Those that say tunnel etc. I do not want anyone stopping me because of a misplaced sticker. On the front legally mounted, they just wave you through the checkpoints. No need to dig out paperwork or explain why there is no visible sticker.

Flipp'n DNR

Years ago I had put my trail permit sticker on my "dash" right behind my windshield. ( due to replacing a windshield every year with the kids riding the rock sled )
It was fully visiable to anyone standing next to my sled. I was in the Cadilac area, had a child on the sled with me when I approached a DNR check point. The Big Female DNR officer had to lift her f*t bottom off her sled to look at mine. I pointed out the sticker's location. She the proceeded to rag on me on the proper location of the sticker. I explained but she just made the comment that she could give me a ticket for improper display. Was so stupid. The state got their money, why is she really hassleing me? If you think about it...the damn sticker doesn't serve any real purpose other than you have payed to be on the Mich trail. As long as you bought the darn thing and you can show that you are carring it with you...wants the beef?? Most DNR give tickets not warnings has been my experiance ! Seems they want $ not to hep serve.

Place permit sticker above head light or risk hassle.
If MI registration, must be on either sde of the hood, lower half.

^^^^^^Agreed^^^^^^^^^^

I end up getting a speeding ticket every 2 years, I look at it as the cost of doing business, and accept it as such.

BTW, I have no front license plate on any of my vehicles (in a state that requires one) since I was 16. I never got a ticket for that either.

What has anything you said here in any of your posts gone towards answering or helping the question asked way back to post 1. I also suspect you are a Racer wannabe who comes to Michigan to terrorize oncoming traffic since after all you did buy a trail permit. You have clearly pointed out your inmaturity in your total disregard for mans law. So are you saying you are now 17 or 18 and on your second speeding ticket?

"State law requires that you affix the
registration decals issued to the snowmobile
to each side of the forward half of the cowl
above the footwell."

Thats the exact wordage from MI DNR. Not the lower sides near the front or behind a leg. They have engineered the specs for the proper placement.

Now everyone raise their hand that knows what a cowl is ? (hand raised)

i dont see the big deal in putting a sticker on the hood...either on the paint or over your fnacy decals. you have to have a sticker to ride in the area ur riding (MI in this case) I think they are ugly..yes. but o well its the name of the game. Jesse James builds bad *** choppers and still has to put a dumb looking licence plate on it! haha! My WI ones are on the side of my hood on the rough plastic or (stippled? if thats a word lol) and they stick fine..the MI one goes on my windshield and looks dumb but again O WELL its the name of the game. Id rather have my decals visable to johnny law becasue id hate getting asked to stop for stickers they cant see and then have him dig for more reasons to give me tickets. if you dont like the state or areas rules on decal placement stay home. IMO.

Racer Wannabe?

Back in 1983 I was running 9.40's at 138+ M.P.H.in a big-block chassied Colt that I built

I'll bet I'm a bit older than you, and no I don't "terrorize the trails.

Try driving 55m.p.h. down the expressway, you'll get plowed over in the first 5 minutes!

As far as helping and answering the original poster's questions, I speak from experience.

Just don't like stickers on my windshield, have been putting them on my tunnel since 1984. Don't like Obama bumper stickers either.

Snowmobiled in Wisc, U.P. , Illinois, Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming, trailer-ed our own sleds to Yellowstone 4 times now, still no tickets for "improper sticker placement" plain and simple.

Still waiting on the tickets you alleged to have rec'd.

So, when you've run as quick as I have, and have snowmobiled where I have, then you can come talk to me.

Who's the wanna be now, Mr. Polaris Rider?

Friggin' amateur!

lol, Just got off phone with Dave B. he said, what a poser! Dude you don't have a clue. I don't need to rattle off credentials to you. I have snowmobiled way more than you list. My kids are named after my favorite snowmobile salesmen, and the kids were conceived on sleds. I live, breath and sleep snowmobiling. Wifes side has 30 plus sleds my side is a smaller family with 23 sleds. (all brands) I was raised in a Poo dealership back room with pitbulls. The west michigan snowmobile trail ran thru my back yard for 30 years. I have been a Life member for past 25yrs. in MSA. I am a former Flat river snowmobile club member for 23 years. They folded due to lack of land access for trails. Guess you don't get it. the Question in post #1 was not answered well. You answered it with the My willy is bigger than your willy response. The guy just wanted to know to keep his stickers on and not be harrassed or to break the law. If you need parts for that colt we have them in our Salvage yard. The guy that answers the phone is not as nice as me. (my brother) As kids I used to let the Dobermans chew on him in the yard.

I can't help it............but in one sentence you state you don't need to list your "credentials" and then take 6 lines to do exactly that???? Nice mini-biography tho.

As far as the OP's original query, sometimes they will stick if the surface is not too pourus and sometimes they won't. It really is a personal judgement call as to whether YOU think the surface will hold the decal. Best bet is to make sure the surface is completely clean (isopropyl alcohol works great) and then hit the decals with a heat gun or hair dryer to really give the sticker a good adhesion. If using a heat gun though be careful as to not get too close and melt the sticker.

As far as the debate on the placement of registration and trail permits, it's just the way it is. When you go jeepin' at any wheeling park you need an ugly 6' orange flag on your buggy. In some states you need to place a second plate on the front of your vehicle rendering that spot useless for your "THINK SNOW" plate. If you're a visitor to any of our National or State Parks you need to affix a sticker (I really hate these)to the inside of your windshield. How about the guy with the new $30,000 boat that he has to put the 3" registration numbers on. Hey remember when we had to do that to all our sleds, let's be happy that isn't required anymore or I can't imagine the topic we might be discussing on here. Bottom line is the decals have to be on your sled, in the correct spot and thats the way it is. Ya it sucks sometimes when you can't find just the perfect place for them or they don't "jive" with your color scheme but rules is rules. Conformity is a pet peeve of mine especially when it's Big Brother telling me to conform but sometimes like this you just need to pick your battles, I guess. My .02¢

So how fast did you say you ran Mr. Racer Wannabe, I didn't see that?

Let's not lose sight of your Racer Wannabe comment directed at me along with the 17 year old comment. How's that shoe taste right about now ?

Will you be proudly displaying your Obama bumper sticker on your sled this year?

I might be interested in some of those Colt parts, but they would have to come off of a car that at least ran faster than 9.47 ET back in '83.

And yeah, that is a parachute on the back of that Colt leavin' the line carrying the front wheels....

You'll have to run in the 9's to EARN that NHRA license, they don't just sell 'em.

Sorry for the thread Hi-Jack Mr. O/P, but I've been runnin' stickers on the sides on my tunnel and NEVER on my windshield since 1984, and in (5) different states, and over 40,000 miles of trail and mountain ridin', and NEVER got ticketed, so I do speak from experience.

If in Michigan, I think you need them anywhere but your own private property.

On my XP Gade I do NOT put reg stickers on it at all. As soon as I hit the POW they peel right off. Its not my fault Michigan can't make a sticker to stay put (my Klim ones have stayed on for 3 yrs), and I'm not gonna drill holes in my sled (mount a plate) because of that. Yes, I have been stopped, but I carry my registration with me and show them that. Never been an issue.
