What is your thoughts on the new Chevy Colorado? Looks good even though I don't like bow ties

I like the idea of a smaller vehicle but here in minnesota you can buy older low mile 1/2 tons fairly cheap so I go back and forth on this till I get a chance to drive the colorado . I dont trailer my sled so no real need for a 1/2 ton

The Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon never sold well. The 4 and 5 cylinder engines were not liked no V6. The first half of this year they only sold 8000 units compared to the Toyota Tacoma that sold 38000 units. I think they are both good looking trucks.

I think it's a better looking redesign, that original design I thought looked like crap. And since Ram and Ford have stopped with the smaller truck market, maybe Chevy can pick up some.

I think the 4 cyl diesel will be an interesting option - roughly 200 hp and 375 lbs could make a nice option for the guy looking to get good mileage while towing a 2place enclosed

They are obviously doing some thinking because in order to combat having a smaller truck they are going to make the price point only a few thousand under the 1500s so that they don't lose their profits as much.

The same basic truck currently for sale in Australia gets 26-28MPG with the 2.8 turbodiesel and is rated to pull 8000 pounds. This is double the MPG's I get with my 5.3 silverado and a higher tow rating, too. 80% of my driving is non-towing, I would save a ton on fuel and the smaller size would be way easier to park and fit in the garage. My silverado has buckets so I can only seat 5 today; rarely do I have more than 4 people in my truck; so again, the narrower Colorado crewcab body seating 4 comfortably will work fine. For my uses, the fuel savings would be an excellent trade for having less room inside. I just wish they were bringing out the diesel next year instead of 2016. By then there will be several other diesel choices on the market that might be better alternatives.

I'm skeptical that the suspension will be beefy enough to handle a 6K-8K trailer, but there are plenty of add-on's to address that. Sounds like the braking system is top-notch and the powertrains are optimized for towing (different powerbands, more torque/less HP for both the 4 and 6 cyl gas engines versus their "car" counterparts). Will wait to see road tests and comparison results before deciding yeah or neah.

If U think the EPA will allow non restrictive diesel like the one used in Australia to run on USA roads think again.
U cant even get a Diesel VW rabbit or Audi in AWD in this country because they dont meat the EPA standard.
my guess it will be a very restrictive 2wd with over a 30% loss of power.
the only way to get quality European diesel in this country is to get them used off a diplomat or someone with pull that got them in under some foreghen national deal

I'm a fan of the smaller trucks... Bought 2 new sonomas, both 4 cylinder sticks and put 300k plus on both. I looked at both the canyon and Colorado and IMO... They are too expensive. Not enough difference between those and a full size to make people jump. I like the new one but I'm sure will be $30k plus... And that doesn't interest me.

The official write-up from the LA Auto Show said the diesel will get the urea injection system same as the Duramax and Cruze. Requires a refill about every 10K miles which coincides with the oil change internals on these engines. No loss in power or MPG's vs the Aussie version. Target is 200HP and 365 lb ft of torque.

The Audi Q5 SUV and A6, A7 sedans all come with the TDI and AWD combo in the USA beginning with the 2014 model year. Appears they have overcome the emissions issue at least with the larger 3 liter motor. The engine targeted for the Colorado is 2.8 L so hopefully they'll have the same success.

This thread is about the upcoming 2015 Colorado / Canyon from GM, not the past versions.

Will be interesting to see pricing and fuel mileage ratings.
