Mileage vs. Hours

When I went to the snowmobile museum on route 70 in I believe St.Germain or eagle river a few years ago, his sled was on display there. There was a 2 page letter describing his cancer ride. It describes his last mile of him driving the snowmobile to his mothers gravesite with the mileage corresponding numbers ending with some significate number. It describes him maintaining the sled every nite in his garage after each daily ride. To help him with his daily miles, he would ride the trail south of the porkies (trail11 maybe?) we would go back & forth a few times.

Ah ya dude... Snowballcancer.org Nick Keller does a 500 mile day ride every feb and I am proud to say I did it feb of 16' 523 miles in 16 hours. Worst of it was I did 280 the day before on accident... 800 miles in 2 days. Read up on that cause. He set the world record @ 19,340 miles in 60 consecutive days. Ironman Nick Keller. Thats my white Pro S in front there.

To clarify..

3 hours 15 minutes from Houghton Ramada to Airport Rd in Minocqua (Arbor Vitae). This was taking the quickest route on a Monday morning no traffic , perfect groomed trails and one gas stop in Bruce Crossing- 160 miles total... Usually it takes 4 hours when we stop for breakfast in Land O Lakes...

Looks like we will be doing the same trip in a couple weeks and riding back on Presidents Day. Your welcome to come along..

Talking about miles, Who has the record for snowmobile miles in 1 day? i was sick one day in the UP & had to stay in my hotel all day while the guy that went on the trip with me managed to put on 410 miles in 1 day.... he ran up to copper harbor twice, down to sidnaw, to bruce crossing & back to mass city where we were staying. can anyody beat that?

I am not sure of the actual miles in a day but I know that years ago Polaris had a test rider do at least 1000 miles in a day, they were running on Lake of the Woods and just going for the mileage so it is not a true day of riding.

This thread got me interested so I checked my sled, 5858 miles, 177 hours, average speed 33.1 MPH, not bad considering most of my miles are on trails with a 50 MPH speed limit.

Bear, I think that test rider was a bit confused. I have been around some of the test riders. They do not push that hard for that long. I think he had that gauge set to the metric standard.

BTW, we check our sleds every day. I know what it takes to get numbers in range over 30 mph average. There is a really big difference when you start pushing numbers over 40 for the life of the sled.
Check your autos. You would be surprised how low those numbers are when you calculate the numbers.

Hi Bear,
I have seen 33.1 this year riding with Harvest south of the Houghton bridge to Big Bay to Mass and back to Krupps. About 50% on grades topping out about 70 and riding at limits (I try not to use my brakes on the twistys and corner fast) in the twistys. Its is actually kind of a bummer to see 33 avg and think "I was going so much faster on the grade", but so many stops etc.

Interesting reading. My sled = 11,195 mi @ 357.4 hrs = 31.32 avg mph. The wife's sled = 10,467 mi @ 329.4 hrs = 31.78 avg mph. The spare sled = 1,153 mi @ 37.1 hrs =31.08 avg mph...Our biggest day was 425 miles...

Just checked my 18 assualt. 866miles and 52mph average. Would probably be higher but put a 100 on with the kid. Wonder how long this 800 will last.

You have to get out and ride more tbone, a new sled and not even 17 hours on it yet.

He may not have a lot of hours. But he must have it pinned all the time with average speed like that. Very few stop signs on the trails he rides would help keep up averages. I ride pretty hard, but times we stop to check map or gps I leave it running (if only going to be a minute) probably kills my average, which when I checked was just under 32mph.

I'm at an average of about 23 mph, BUT in the past 3 winters I have towed my sleds almost 7500 miles to log in just 1000 miles or less between them, living far from snow SUCKS, glad I like my truck! HAHA!

This thread made me curious so I checked the Assault today: 4 winters, 603 miles, 34 hours. 150.75 miles/per year @ avg. speed of 17.74 mph.

I have some other sleds that may be diluting the total miles that I put on this sled but for sure, it says I'm old AND slow.

Calling BS on that ride. Average would actually be 103 MPH, and that will never happen on a trail. Doubtfull someone would be able to do that on an interstate highway for that time and distance.

yes it was sarcasm....but is also true...and I have a go pro film to prove it on me channel....26 miles in 14 minutes or something like it....from bigbay to ford road in 14 minutes....then from ford road to the CANTINA in 25 minutes or something there aboots....I got a call from the DNR about people complaining how fast I was going in me film and not being on the right side and how animals were hurt in the making of this film and so I modified the speed I posted in my film and shortened it up and edited it to make it look good and safe and slower....I wasn't alone either and aboot 8 guys were with me and did the same...I think I showed youse guys that film before....no BS grant....the highest speed I hit was 112 on the road....triple A.....boogity boogity boogity

PS....we did that run a lot and one time I got to ford road after running aboot 105 for all 14 minutes....shut off the sled....there was a strange eerie orange glow coming from my F7...we lifted the hood....it had melted a 3 inch hole in the frame behind the clutch.....ask bob at adventure centre....I think its still on the wall of shame as a badge of honor...and not the 1st time either...triple X one time my frame melted running lake freeman in Monticello Indiana at 104 from the sand bar all the way to tall timbers and the dam and back again...melted aboot 421 highway bridge....true dat
