IRONWOOD - Things are starting to move quickly with the Copperwood Project under Orvana Resources, after two milestones have been accomplished.

Permit 632, a 6,300-page document seeking permission from the state for Orvana to mine in Wakefield and Ironwood townships was approved Wednesday. According to emails sent to Orvana from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and Gov. Rick Snyder's office....................................... There will be a meeting at the local college GCC on March 6th and the director of safety heath and enviroment from the mining company (Orvana) says 30 days after the meeting " i will guarantee we will get this permit"..(Of course other permits are still needed).....Paper said they thought they would need about 200 people for the blasting project alone but now feels the number is nearly 300...Plus a 3.5 million dollar road improvements around the area.

Let's hope they don't need any federal permits! If so, put a fork in it. 6,300 pages!! You gotta be kidding?

This would be great for the area and I hope it goes through.

I agree. At 8.5% unemployment (10.4% in Gogebic County 12/2011) 300 jobs is 300 jobs. Hi tech, low tech, no tech, it's 300 new paychecks buying stuff in the community.

Spoken like someone who knows nothing about mining or mining jobs. Yes, there will be jobs that can only be filled by highly educated people, but the majority of the jobs will be "industrial experience" type jobs.
The iron mine that I work at has hired just over 300 people over the past two years. More than half were not college educated. What they had was a solid work history with good employment references, and experiences from a wide variety of industries.
Speaking from experience. If you prove you're reliable, eager to learn, and trustworthy you'll be a step ahead of many with just a degree.
Food for thought. Our general labor position starts at $23.97/hr. with huge bennys. Not to shabby for entry level in the UP.

Here we go again.

It will be nice for a 10 year period of time for some.

Is this the same type of mine that they have going in Big Bay?
