We have had a hazy sky and I was wondering what the heck is that, found out that wildfire in Min is why,,,strange look in da old sky. Anyone have info on it?
The fire is east of Ely MN, in or close to being in the Boundary Waters. Our house is about 50 miles away from the fire and we could clearly see the smoke raising from it. The smoke from the fire seemed much closer then the 50 miles away. Currently it has burned 11,000 acres and still spreading.
We can smell it in Neenah, Wisconsin and at the airport in Appleton. Approximately 450 miles away, smells more like burning garbage than forestry. A coworker said they're burning their Brett Favre jerseys but I don't believe it!
I honesty thought my neighbor started his outdoor wood burner when I first walked outside this morning. Visibility is under 3 miles and cant see the sun. Stinks bad here too. Watertown WI, halfway between Milwaukee and Madison. This is crazy!
Cheese and Rice, I just watched the noon news, and according to the satellite my area isnt even in the moderate to heavy smoke area. It showed heavy smoke clouds up by N Wi and even in W.UP. I cant imagine how bad it is up there.
It's edge is now only about 30 miles to our cabin. gets you a little nervous when it traveled 16 miles yesterday alone. We are straight south though while it seems to be spreading to the south east. Looing at the latest map though and it is into some of the areas we ride on the south side of the BWCA
We had the haze & the smell late yesterday into the evening here in the Keweenaw. Then came a quick moving storm with some extremely strong wind gusts. The winds have shifted since & no smell for now.-Mezz
Elf, I was wondering if it was heading your way. With the northwest winds, it looks like you maybe just southwest of it's path. Hope they can contain it soon or at least no shift in the wind direction.
On Sunday when it was 14 miles east of Ely we jumped in boat and drove to the east edge of Vermilion to make sure it wasn't headed our way, it looked that close.
Good luck to elf and all the folks who live around there!
Thanks, Mrs. Bear for that link.
We can smell it and it's hazy here in Chicago - me Oak Park. Amazing. And it's supposed to get stronger before it gets weaker! Smells like I'm at a campground.
