The trails today are already starting to snirty and icy. Overall not bad. We rode from Waters meet to Bents....all good. From Bents down all was good tIL we hit 15. It was pretty beat all the way to Boulder. Hoping groomer can hit the trails but it's getting pretty busy.

Don't abuse my equipment in low-snow conditions. I doubt they're that good where I'm starting on - 70W, 4 mile W of ER. They didn't even groom it last night, although the rest of the system was.
I'll wait.

$12,000-$14,000 snowmobiles versus a set of carbides at $60-$100? Pretty easy decision for most people to make. Heck it could be 60 in another couple weeks like last year.

I agree. This argument has always baffled me. I haven't been up in quite a few years. However, I rode for 20+ years. Been in conditions that were perfect, and conversely, have ridden 10 miles straight on pure gravel and dirt. If the trails were ride-able, we rode. At no point did I ever burn up or ruin a piece of equipment from thin trails. Sure, replaced some wear items here and there, but kept my machines pristine for all of those years---even after riding on trails most people on this board seem to whine about.

Get out and ride if you've got em! You seriously aren't going to hurt anything other than the cheap replacement parts.

Don't like wrenching on stuff in cold weather, or the hassle of trying to get Triple-points out of Bergstrom mid-season.
Never did hyfax on my own, and won't start now. Don't need the headache of trying to schedule service this time of year.

Changing hyfax and wear rods are two of the simplest maintenance tasks on a recreational vehicle. Definitely worth the risk/reward of riding vs. not riding. FYI--I only changed hyfax 1 time in the middle of the season.

Battery powered impact wrench and the right socket, a friend to lift the ski, carbides changed in under five minutes. I always have a spare set anyway you can be on good trails and still have something happen. I'm sitting on no open trails by me and two weeks till I can head north. I wish I had your chance.

I never understood this reason for not riding either. I've gotten 4000 miles on carbides clanking off rocks. Rocks won't hardly do anything to carbides. The gravel, especially soft gravel, that wears out the host bar that does them in. But Im more old school in thinking carbides are more for protecting the ski than for performance or turning. To each their own. On a more local note, maybe the snow today will at least open up the railroad grade here. Hate these new rules for that!

You maybe in the wrong sport.
Try golf all you have to do is pick up the phone and make a reservation.

Fact of the matter is, I've been in it for a long time, and my enthusiasm has waned.
More interested in the pilots license and buying a Cirrus now, so point taken. Carry on with your regularly scheduled frivolity. Oh...and golfs a total waste of time - gave it up 20+ years ago.

These guys are right, if you have the time, get out and ride. I was in Boulder Junction/Mercer area all weekend, there was plenty of snow. There will always be the spots on the weekends with washed out corners and spots that the carbides occasionaly click on. Carbides and slides can all be replaced with very little effort. If this is the area you are headed up to, Presque Isle had some very nice conditions. The only area I would avoid was the Springstead area. I am not sure if they have a groomer down over there but it had not been groomed in awhile and had some huge whoops. There is also some logging/lack of grooming west of the Turtle Flowage on 9/12. Someone correct me if I am wrong on those trail #'s but their was some pretty large whoops over there also. Everything else we rode in the area was very well maintained as all of the clubs up there are top notch! Keep up the good work!

Yeah, I will. Have fun burning up your cheap equipment. Wash a few corners out for me and slide into a birch or 2.

Brand new sled, put 250 miles on. Trails were mostly good to great. Rode to Mercer, through Minocqua, Sayner, Hazelhurst, Arbor Vitae, etc. No birch issues either, but thanks for asking.

I have been on four trips this year, Mass City, Rockland, Hayward (family trip) and Minocqua. The Minocqua trip was last week and had the smoothest trails with the least amount of snow.and Hayward was second for best trails. The idea of needing a lot of snow for good trails is just wrong.

Today's warmup should be awesome then...LOL
