misrepresented miles on a sled?

their is a huge difference between car and motorsport laws.....I found out that one the sled manufacturers back in the day had Demo rides on Lk milax then they took those sleds and put new speedo in them and sold as new when done......thought it was wrong at time........learned it was not Illegal.....so the thing to do is look at the wear and tear on a sled....not mileage

I write down the mileage on the frame when I change out the speedometer. I want to make sure I am absolutely correct on the miles. It seems hard to believe that there is not something on the books about accurate mileage. On the other hand, I guess it always depends on the type of miles. Friend has a 4 wheeler that he uses for work. That thing runs half the day and yet rarely goes more than a mile from base.

Its about being honest not the shape of the sled. If a dealer sold the sled one year then takes it in trade with less miles they should tell the customer if its the law or not. Snowmobiles are as much as a car now so it should not make a difference.

I sold a snowmobile to a friend who used it for 2 years. He traded it in to a dealer then we saw it 2 years later with half the miles. This was a very good dealer we did not say anything but were not happy when we saw that.

A dealer with these values and practices I find hard to believe he would be in business very much longer. Reputation is a must for a business if I had to guess.

I heard of a place 15 or so years ago that used to take leased vehicles and turn back the miles. I believe they used surgical gloves and rubber tipped screwdrivers to hide fingerprints and evidence on that the screws/bolts had been turned on. 300 bucks back then...No I never went there either.

Can't forget when driveshaft bearings go out and people just keep riding them. My 500 had 200 more miles on it then what it really said on the odometer.

No title no mileage tracking required...but not ethical. Friend had an issue with gauge on an Etec and had it replace under warranty. O miles on odometer but ECM has the data. So mileage can be checked with dealer hooking up computer and checking ECM. I would guess all the never sleds mileage and hours are tracked and kept in the ECM which can be checked by a dealer. When I buy a used sled I state I am going to have the ECM checked for mileage at a dealer and ask to have that added (mileage) to the purchase agreement. This has worked for me and worth the little extra work!
