If gas stays as high as it is right now i bet the viper will sell very well. I dont see the downside to this. Yamaha added a model without dropping any and cat got a better engine.

The US trail sled market might be shrinking but arent overseas sales growing?

I guess what impresses me about Yamaha is the fact that they have worked hard to develope the rider forward type chassis but still retained the traditional ride style of the older models. I for one am unable to ride the the forward style sleds due to knee problems and really appreciate the fact that I can still go out and buy a sled with the traditional seating position. Call me an old fart,(I have been riding for 40 yrs.) but I am also in that market segment that can afford to go out and pay cash for a new sled and not worry about financing problems. But that market segment is so small anymore that manufacturers don't worry about retaining the traditional riding style sleds and concentrate only on forward position sleds. Thats why I have always been and still am a Yamaha rider.

I wasn't trying to downplay the company at all..I ride an early 2000's Yamaha and love it. If someone gave me the sled no strings attached of course I would ride it, I just don't think that the merge was a good step.

Why compete when u can copy, the relationship will probably be like Chevy and GMC (same truck different grill)And Doo and Lynx. Should've named it a CopyCat

Uhh, 4 years.
Want to bet if Yamaha helped develop the pro cross chassis? Be curious to know.

Also heard Yamaha engineers have been inside TRF plant for over 8 months.

any one think about all the extra 2s cat can build this yr by building all the extra 4s for yammi? with out this deal and no di clean 800 that we know of yet I don't think cat would have the credits to build 5/8 of demand.or any next yr.
but now seeing what is going down makes me think this has been in the works for a long time 09/10 ? the suzuki buy back etc etc.they said they just would not produce what they wanted.
makes me think they may have been working with yammi on a DI deal in 11 and had to get out of suzuki to make it happen?

The sleds we have now are not identical offerings. Back in 2001 all four manufacturers made the same sled with different colors. There was not a whole lot of difference between a ZR and an XC. Just colors. Yammi had the triple triple SRX a little late but respectable. Doo still had trailing arms - They were ALL THE SAME. 2003 was the turning point. And yes SkiDoo has turned out to be the winner there. Since then Doo has thrown even more money into the game with their SDI's which turned into E-techs and now Aces. We have definite choices. AC has a lot of new stuff in their lineup. They have a HUGE offering for 2014. Lots of good stuff. How much DI is Yammi's - who knows? But it is an impressive lineup. With the hype it would appear that Yammi got more out of AC than AC got out of Yammi but as Ezra said who knows how long this has been in the works? If you are a die hard Suzuki fan you better get your suzy this year. It might be over. Doo doesn't have to do much. Pol still sells a lot of sleds to the Poo faithful. What they have is fine but it is not earth shaking. It keeps up. The 800's finally hold together. But they have gained a lot of weight. I am going to be a test rider for the new Viper. Not exactly because I will be paying full boat for it. Both AC and Yammi have a lot at stake here. I am thinking (hoping) they will get it right. Either way I am tired of my 700 lb Apex.

agree but the xc and zr chassi are so far apart not even close to same sled

The front ends were different but after that they were the same. The way the motors were situated, the jackshaft/chaincase setup, the tank and seat configuration and even the rear suspensions shared a lot. The biggest difference was that the ZR's turned and the XC's didn't. And that was because of the front end. Perhaps you are right. Or are you talking about the 'new' ZR's?
