Please please people if you ride this area call dnr 906-452-6227 x251 also call msa 616-361-2285. It is important to have as many calls, emails, letters as we can get out there. Flooding them with calls might do it. All calls letters email are documented "at least they are suppose to be"
The grooming equipment in Munising area needs up grading and to be maintained better someone or someone's not properly maintaining stuff causing some of the breakdowns.
I been riding this area for almost 20 years it's been real bad past few years I love the area and want to continue riding the area. I have made several calls letters and emails to do my part. I can't do it without help so please please help with 5-10 minutes of your time and make a call.
This is not my first posting on this site I'm a regular here and decided to go anonymous on this post for my own reason.

Please please please call I can't not stress it anymore. Thank you

Actually the John Deere tractor and it's new drag are pretty much state of the art as far as grooming goes.........but the second part (lack of maintenance and overall give a sh!+) is right on the money.

We were up there 3 weeks ago and never rode on smoother trails. That new groomer and the driver were doing a great job.

Was there this past weekend with 5 friends on rentals we picked up from Marquette. Went from there to Pictured Rocks to Foggy's to KI on Saturday.... Munising area was the worst I have ever seen. Heading east on 8 from 7 was all washboard and rollers, the south end of 422 was rollers, and 7 north of 8 was rollers in the south and just general crap in the north. North end of 422 was fine thanks to a groomer coming out of Pictured Rocks as we were going in.

I will say that the Marquette County trails were all in really good shape all weekend. Smoothest I have seen in a while in fact - both on 8 (east-west as well as north-south) and 417. Came across a groomer on Saturday night that was heading east on 8 near Chatham - as we got off the trail to let him by he was tunnel-visioned ahead and was enjoying his doobie as he groomed.... stanky smoke rolling out of the cabin window. Rode a smooth ribbon from there all the way to Little Lake. Looks like the groomer doesn't run the spur going up to KI anymore. Strange as they did earlier this year.

All in all it was a fantastic weekend - despite the 60 miles of garbage trails around Munising. We had 2 first-timers in the group and they cannot wait to go again. Until next year!

Actually it closed down almost 2 years ago - 2 snowmobile seasons for sure. It was groomed all of last season and earlier this season (as recently as Christmas I saw). People still like to ride out to the KI Sawyer Air Heritage Museum when it is open, plus ride out to the static aircraft display, plus there are plenty of sledders who live in the housing section. There is also the Black Bear Grill located at the old gym that you can sled to for lunch or dinner as well - and I have gotten to pick someone up at the airport by snowmobile before too :D heheh

Thanks, I corrected the spelling - my phone thinks it is smarter than I am. :)

Back in the late 70's early 80's, we use to ride out of Mohawk.
Favorite stop used to be the Radar Base up there.
They use to let snowmobilers go to the bar there.
John, it that still up there?
