So as you may or may not know I started building a house last fall. Have been living in my tiny little bachelor pad for the last 12 years and although it served me well, my wife deserved something much nicer.... As you will see by the pictures I did this all for her.... lol. House is 1780 sq ft first floor and garage is 1750 sq ft. See she always wins.... I did it the right way I think though. Steel siding and steel roof. Spray foam insulation. Went a little hippy and bought the most efficent hvac system I could get with the Carrier Green Speed system with air to air heat pump. Bought 1.6 acres north of town, two lots, in a subdivision. Had to install septic (sucks big time) but have a community well. Nice neighbors and quiet keep to themselves types. So here is what my paycheck is going toward for the foreseeable future... IMG_20170215_075102.jpg IMG_20170317_085845716_HDR.jpg IMG_20170317_085906940.jpg

Pics are twisting my mind.
Does the peak of the ceiling in the garage, run perpendicular to the peak of the roof?

I get it now. I was only looking at the roof peak on the garage. Now looking again, I see how the garage ceiling follows the main house roof. (Peak)
Garage roof peaked to keep runoff, not in front of doors.
Very jealous of garage space.

I like the overhead florescent lighting, have the same thing in my smaller working space, and they make a huge difference with the fully sheet rocked and painted walls/ceiling! Nice job......

Nice setup.

I love the garage and kitchen lighting. I also did the multi layer lighting in the kitchen/living area.

But, it is a spendy/pain to convert a mid 80s home lighting retro.
Do it right is a mantra.

Very cool. Very jealous of the garage. How does the price of steel roof/siding compare to alternatives? Is that common to use up there? Around here in Chicago suburbs I can't imagine any home association allowing the use of steel

Thanks every one. Steel is much more durable. Especially for the roof. Last week with three days of wind there were shingles blown off on 4 new houses out in my addition. Never have to worry about it with steel. It does cost about 40% more but starts paying you back right away. Home owners insurance is about 40% cheaper with a steel roof. Most claims have something to do with shingles so if you don't have shingles.... The steel siding doesn't expand and contract like plastic siding so it can be caulked and sealed not just hid behind j-channel. I used EDCO steel. Made in Minnesota!! That kichen is just a picture of our plan. We are doing a corner sink and what not. One of the other cool rooms that you can't see is under the 10x14' porch. Bomb shelter baby. Whole room incased in 10 inches of reinforced concrete. Got a vault door for it. Bring on the zombies!! lol. IMG_20160901_115338166.jpg

Like your style. Not a vinyl fan. Steel is a great siding. Most folks won't know it is steel unless they know what looks good and why.

Same thought track as me slimcake, steel all the way. Re roofed with hidden fastener steel several years ago, steel siding this year. Cheaper for heating, and cooling, and no wind damage anymore!!! A friend of mine sided with steel 25 years ago. It was Alcoa steel siding, from the aluminum Co, with a 100 year warranty. Nice looking house for sure. The best of luck to you and your family on your project.
