I'm a NASCAR fan and I'm glad to see they took some action tonight! What MWR did deserves even worse IMO. Not only does Bowyer spin, but then Bowyer and Vickers pit under green during the last 3 laps to make sure Logano gets in, which also makes sure Truex gets in, which then knocked Gordon out.

You have to wonder if at least one of MWR's big sponsors won't drop them after this. It was all planned in advance and confirms what type of person Michael Waltrip really is. Nothing but crickets coming from MWR though as they were caught red handed.

Please keep comments to this race fixing topic from Saturday night and not how terrible Nascar is from something that happened in the past.

Also a NASCAR fan. Not too say I saw this coming, but MWR has been trying and tryng and trying sooooo hard, they seemed like they would do anything to win. Think this may prove to be the case. Watched some of the vids and it seems pretty obvious. "39's gonna win the race" "Your arm got an itch" Vickers questioning his team was even worse!

On another note, sad to see my driver (Burton) without a ride for next year. Didn't understand why they couldn't put Newman in the 29 since that seat hasn't been filled (that I've heard of). Been a Burton fan since I started watching NASCAR, all they way back to his ford days w/ Roush.

I've given up on Nascar in the last few years, too much drama and not enough racing. They lost me when they built all the Michigan clones. Michigan has to be the most boring track the series races at and they go and build more tracks just like it and eliminate action tracks to do it.
That being said, I did watch the race Saturday night and the Bowyer spin didn't raise any red flags for me. At least there was an issue to justify the yellow, unlike the mystery 'debris' cautions that riddle the races of today to gather the field back together when someone has built a large lead over the other cars. If drivers/owners want to investigate something that would be a good place to start. Really is that spin any different than someone spinning a driver in a race mid-season? I don't think it is. If it was an order from MWR for Bowyer to spin it is just a business decision on their part. I doubt that any sponsors would depart from MWR for the incident that took place Saturday night, rather more sponsors may be calling.
Why was Gordon, a four time champion, dependent on the last lap of the last race anyway? He had a crappy season, for that he does not make the chase. If I watched Nascar full time like I used to I could comment more and possibly pick out some situations that took place during the season that caused Gordon to be in the position he was in Saturday night, but I don't so I can't.
At this point I would rather support my local dirt track and see people who get their hands dirty, burn the midnight oil to prepare their cars and want to win the race more than they want to spit out some token phrase to support big business while drinking a Coca Cola for the camera.
That's my two cents.

Ramsey,

Have you watched the in car video and listened to the team communications? Still no red flags? Have you listened to the opinions of the professionals that have raced and been crew chiefs for decades and all of them (at least I have yet to see otherwise) have come to the same conclusion; Bowyer spun out on purpose. It was so obvious NASCAR had to take action and they did.

It will be interesting to see how the fans react to MWR teams this weekend.

Regardless, if it weren't the last race before the chase this thread would not even be on here. Dare I say that Ironhead was attempting to block Sterling Marlin when he met his maker. Who won that race? Mikey or Jr? I seriously don't recall but it was a car that he owned if I recall. This crap has been going on forever. This argument could go on forever. I won't feed the beast any more. I'm out.

Blocking is an accepted part of the sport, spinning out on purpose and pitting under green with 3 laps left for no reason is not.

I am more surprised MW has been able to survive as long as he has in NASCAR .datona was a fluke Michal blows as a driver alwas has always will. and when is that man coming out of the closet? I guarantee he has a wide stance toe tapping when hanging out at restrooms at Minneapolis airport.
I also quit following regularly still have races on when football not on at same time. but no fantasy racing no more flying to see them go left .
I have a few buds in to road racing at road America and BIR I really enjoy going to those events a few times a yr.
these guys are daddy war bucks guys with modded Porsche and lotus cars . but they sit in the trailers now . why u ask because they are all more in to the chump class racing now. yep 250k just sitting in the trailer to drive around a civic.

That is too funny! I've wondered the same thing myself. LOL

I just watched the video and quite frankly, i don't have a problem with it. Was it a cheesy move? Sure, but i would rather see Bowyer spin out all by himself and still require some racing by everybody else than to see somebody put someone into the wall or see them modify Truex's car, which completely eliminates the other driver's ability to control their own destiny. As far as the spin out is concerned, if Nascar had road racing yellow flag rules, that spin out would have been, at worst, a 10-15 second local yellow and everyone would have been on their way. Instead for this minor spin, Nascar goes full course yellow, ride behind the pace car for 5 laps, perform the "pit stop show", go to commercial break, etc. and then back to racing. In regards to the last lap pit stops, seems to add a new wrinkle to the strategy component and actually adds some meaning to the "team" concept of Nascar...

It's all about the $$$$$. Blocking and racing hard is part of the game but a purposeful spin out is lame. MWR and Bowyer will lose additional credibility if they had any left.

It's not about rules and laws to me, in fact there isn't a specific rule for this. NASCAR quoted the rule that was violated as "An act detrimental to the sport" or something close to that. To me it's more about ethics and integrity and doing the right thing. Unfortunately, that is on the decline in today's society as proven by some that seem to accept this behavior as ok. :(

To me its about teamates. A player on a football team can take himself out of a play by blocking one or two more opponents if it benefits his team, or teamate. Why can't someone pit for no reason to help a teamate? If it helps bring more money into an organization by one of the teamates making the chase, it will benefit the driver who pitted down the line somehow. The problem is racing is not a team sport, and when you introduce teamates into racing you will affect the integrity. So do you race hard cause its good for nascar, or do whats best for the team?

Nascar is the WWE of motorsports. For car racing I like to watch formula one races. In F1 its an open fact that what are called team orders are enforced upon drivers where they are told to let a teammate pass, not to pass their teammate, or pit at a specific time to help their teammate's race strategy. It happens overtly and everybody knows it happens, so life goes on.
I cant even watch or follow nascar because you know with 5 laps to go in the race there is going to be a caution flag.

I don't follow the NASCAR soap opera much anymore, but I did see the last 100 laps the other night. I really don't care what happened to who, but if NASCAR is trying to make good on the way the race was suppose to end, then Gordon should be in the Chase and Logano should be out also. I know that nobody likes Gordon, but that is one of the casualties of the race ending the way it did.

Hit the nail on the head in this reply. It's now a team sport, and with team mates, you get team "strategy". Hey, if a guy wants to spin out on purpose, have at 'er. If he wants to pit for no good reason, have at 'er. The other teams have to learn to play defense, and maybe anticipate what might happen. There was some good scheming there to pull it off.......but too many whined about it...because they weren't in the position to think of it and do it. I was a NASCAR fan several years ago, but they have lost me. One reason, "teams". I liked it better when there were more guys out there for themselves and drivin the wheels off!
