NE Iowa Conditions?

I live in Osage and last night was a 10 rating. Hard to beat fresh untracked snow. Hopefully they'll get most of the trails groomed as the wind blew all night and temps dropped so the snow will be a little harder and bumpy. It's pretty much all open fields where our trails go through but we do have plenty of snow now and temps are gonna let us keep it for awhile. The Mitchell County EZ Riders Club is having a poker/fun run February 11, which I know they'll have everything table top smooth.

A few of us from Cedar Rapids are heading up to the Cresco area on Saturday to ride. Sounds like that whole area received anywhere from 8 - 12" depending on where exactly you are talking. Expecting good conditions at least for Iowa.
I'm pretty sure that the Cresco Snowfest is this weekend. I'll bet there will be a TON of sleds up in that area. But that club does an excellent job of grooming!

Yep, Snowfest this weekend. We probably won't spend much time in or around Cresco but rather will hit the trails more on the outskirts. I know they are out grooming so crossing my fingers that it is decent up there. Better than Ely anyway as we have 0.00 snow on the ground. Oh wait, we did get a big old trace of snow last night. We do live in Iowa right where we are supposed to occasionally get snow? The last few years I feel like I live in Missouri.

I live in Tiffin and yeah, we got a skiff also LOL!! Oh well, have sled and trailer, will travel I guess. We're heading to Houghton Saturday night for all of next week. Conditions might be better in northern Iowa!

Snow was wet and heavy. Temps have finally dropped where clubs should be able to groom tonight. 6-12 inches in most places. Wind blew last night and drifted. Lots of water, mud and ice under it though. Finally got the snow back that we lost. A few days before Christmas were the only really ride able days up here.

We have our local club trip up to Hayward WI next week. Pretty hard to get stoked about that with a foot of fresh on the ground here! To answer Docksides question trails around Osage (Mitchell county)are normally very fun. They do a nice job of grooming. I wouldn't count on all groomed as this storm came late in the week and will be tough to get every thing done. Went out this afternoon and ran some of our (Worth county) ungroomed trails and they were awesome! Be ready for lots of open field running as this is farm country.

I was looking at parking around albert lea mn and heading south into Iowa trails is this a food idea or not any advice on where is the best chance of hitting good or groomed trails or going different direction to drop off

Gonna be tough to get out of Albert Lea, get yourself a Freeborn county trail map. I would advise parking in one of the smaller sorrounding towns as you will have much easier trail access. Clarksgrove has a gas stop convenience stop right off I 35. Nice bar/restaurant right down the street.
Your also going to need an Iowa trail pass that will run you $17.75 good for whole season. Only place this available in Worth county is the courthouse recorders office. My wife happens to be county recorder so could get you hooked up if after hours or Saturday.

Does anybody know where a guy can get a trail pass early Sunday morning? We will be traveling from Illinois through the Waterloo area to Osage, probably around 8:00 or 9:00 AM.

Snowchief, had to run up to Owatonna today so checked out snow/grooming situation in Freeborn county. Definitely more snow Albert Lea and south toward Iowa. Talked to groomer coordinator in Freeborn and south half of Freeborn is groomed up and they are "trying" north half of county.

Search " Iowa Fishing and Hunting License Issuing Agent"

Website lists every County in Iowa and who sells them. Trail passes are available from any that sell fishing license.
Hope this helps. Sorry don't know how to post a clicky link using my phone. Appears Walmart is a good option.....

Hardware Hank store in Osage sells them but they don't open till noon on Sunday according to their Website.

Fuel Express Gas Station Floyd IA. You'll be going right by it if your headed to Osage. :)

Unloaded yesterday just west of Cresco. Made big loop - west to Riceville, then north to Chester, then over to Lime Springs & up to Florenceville, then Kendalville and back down through Cresco. To the west was very good. The ride from Riceville to Chester was awesome for Iowa. Around Florenceville it got bumpy but that was because of the number of sleds we saw. There were a lot up in this area. Overall it was well worth the 2 hour trip from Cedar Rapids. Had a great time. Although we didn't ride south of Cresco we heard it was thin down there. Get out there and ride while temps are cool. It is good.
