Our, group just did the same area, only we rode East of Cresco over to Lansing. Waukon to Lansing was great.
I agree, get out and ride while it lasts.

condition, terrible it's been 35 to 38 degrees for the last two days and we have lost most of our snow. all plowed fields are snowless. four good days of riding then gone, bummer.

Really - I was wondering on Monday because when I left work it was 43 degrees & then yesterday it was above 40 again. That is down here in Cedar Rapids area. Rrr... We just can't ever get ahead & keep our snow base in Iowa. Well, at least we have a trip planned next week to the UP. The slogan for Iowa sledders has to be "Have trailer, willing to travel" because we sure as heck don't get to ride much around here.

Any store that sells deer tags can sell a trail permit. I had to show the local girl Saturday at the Five Star Coop in New Hampton how it was done. They just need to find the user permit window. I rode from New Hampton to Alta Vist then East to Jericho and back south to Lawler for a short loop. It was ride able but not great. Open creeks as suspected. Then we had a warm up. Back to just a base. Need snow. South of Highway 3 they don't even have a base anymore. Pretty sad winter for Iowa riding.

Is there any riding to be had in central Iowa where the heaviest snow band fell with this last snow event? Maybe an area north of Waterloo?

Doubtful, had lost everything before this snow event. We got about 8" north of Mason City. It was very dry fluffy snow so sled would cut through it pretty easy. Lost more than I would have thought yesterday after it quit snowing. Sun has a lot of power this time of year...

We took the vintage sleds out last night around Fairbank (25 miles NE of Waterloo). There is plenty of snow for them, but I would not trailer a newer machine up here to beat this snow down. There were other sleds running but this snow fell on bare and warm ground, it's melting from both directions.

Thanks for the input kernsy and sonsaditches. I'll save my carbides and hifaxes for the next trip.
