Need Youth hockey gear

My 8 year old is trying out ice hockey this Fall. Figured people on this site have been through this. Where can I find decent priced gear? I don't know if he will stick with it, and if he does, he'll outgrow everything quickly anyway. We live in Indiana, so it will be indoors. I'll take a look at play it again sports to start.

Don't know where you are located, but many youth hockey asscs have hand-me-downs to start you off. Would check with your local hockey people first. When & where we were in hockey, people did that all the time as they wanted as many youth in hockey as they could get. We handed down a lot of hockey gear in our time our kids were playing that was decent equipment. Some almost brand new because they out grew it and no since wasting it. Rev

Yeah, that's not happening. We decided a long time ago we aren't doing any travel leagues or anything like that for kid's sports.

Check with the league, generally speaking they tend to have swap meets in the fall at the rink. Good deals to be had, especially for a beginner that may or may not keep with it. Many youngsters think they want to, but find its not all its cracked up to be.
If for some reason he doesn't stick with it, it'd be the place to get rid of the gear the year he decides its not for him

Find a good rink, then inquire about their programs, learn to skate, learn to play hockey hockey, also alot of rinks have try hockey for free day. Make sure to get skates fitted, nothing worse than a young one whose skates do not fit the way they should. You do not have to spend alot of money but like everything else in sports different brands of skates have different fits. Take it from a guy with two boys who love to play, one high school one squirt aa travel. A play it again sports shop is a good place also to look for gear to get started, or if the local shop is good they will treat you right when you start because they want you back. Also there are alot of mail order shops with great closeout or previous years gear that you can outfit a little one for under a 100 not including skates and helmet. if you shop hard enough. Oh yeah get a good fit on the helmet also. Like any sport let the kids have fun, that is the most important part of it all, feel free to pm me i can go on all day about the game, I coached for a number of years now it is time to just sit back and enjoy the smile on the kids faces. good luck
