Was having a discussion abut this engine with a friend and comparing it to the doo 850, what you guys think. The doo is direct inject and this is not (correct?) The doo 850 had such great mid range and wondering about this new engine.

I don't give Doo much of a break ....but have to admit, I like the fact that they are keeping the price of the 850 in line with past 800 sleds.

7700 miles on the '15 Poo 800 HO and counting......Probly see if I can get another season out of it and then check out a new 850 when they become common place.....but I think you other guys need one NOW!

Only snow check??? Seems somewhat of a odd way to penetrate the market?????????? Leftovers may be the cause??? Still no DI??? I had thought with a new Poo engine it would be DI.

They want to create demand for this product and they want more presold sales to take the pressure off of both the dealer and themselves. I like the idea from a dealer stand point.

Just bought a 2018 XCR 800 HO. Had a chance to wait to get the 850, but I have a 2015 800 HO with 7900 miles and a 2016 with 7600 miles. I can't even remember when the last time I changed plugs or a belt. The 800 HO's are just to dependable for me to switch at this time.

Agree with all of that. Dealers should like that for spring sales, and ordering in season inventory. But in turn, it could hurt fall/preseason sales. So if you want one, you have to act on it now creates snow check sales now. The old days were like that on the snow check specials only. That has been awhile ago though. What else new does Poo have???????? 4 strokes??????????

Sounds good Dan! No 4 strokes yet but they do need to get into that market. Time will tell if the plan is successful or not but it's creating demand already:)

Does anyone know the HP on the Polaris 850? Their marketing collateral only states "most powerful Polaris ever".
FYI; the Ski-Doo is 165.

Marketing is definitely shifting in the snowmobile market for all manufacturers.
-As Kip stated Yamaha is restricting production to snow-checks on 19's to a large degree.
-Arctic Cat has not dropped a big rebate program this year on 18's yet, this is witnessed as the Sidewinder twin to the A/C Turbo is less expensive and a better sled. Very odd to me as snow in the Midwest was one of the worst.
-Polaris has fewer incentives out at this time of year compared to last year for leftover current year models, for instance one year ago you could get a new 2017 XCR 600 manual start for $8,000. This same 2017 sled is STILL available one year later and they want $8,392 for it?
-Ski-Doo who is generally the tightest (in my experience) has plenty of incentive money out there for leftover 2018's (with the most on the Gen-4 850) plus zero percent financing for 3 years. This is a departure from past years and likely a play to role in eating neighboring market share.

Last week, when I picked up my new sled I talked to the owner who sells A/C, Polaris and Ski-Doo he said he and other peer Polaris Dealers would have scathing feedback at the 2018 Dealer meeting. He scoffed at A/C and Polaris for forcing him to hold leftover sleds with low incentives to move them.
I was also told Ski-Doo has 60% of the sled market in WI.
Being a Dealer of any brand is a tough profession.

They dont need DI. Its heavy, expensive, makes heat, and raises CoG.

The pros dont outweigh the cons.

Damn you Polaris!! LOL I was all set on riding mine one more year.... Last night I was watching the reveal video on the big TV and the wife comes out of the office and says "don't we have like 15,000 dollars worth of driveway and patio concrete to pay for????" Kip it sure would be easier for me if I had been able to ride even once from home in the last 3 years.... That being said I may entertain a #....

That may be true, I have no idea.
One thing I do know is power to weight ratio, throttle response and handling are most important to me.
