That must be why Doo sells so many DI/Etecs, and not SDI????????

Why hasnt Cat or Polaris gone to DI then? They both have the technology to do it.

It works for Doo and their plan for their sleds.

But they were selling more sleds then Cat or Poo before they brought in DI. So your argument doesnt work.

Really??? I don't believe Poo, or A/C has the tech for DI production without having to buy it. That is also the reason that Doo/BRP who had the tech as Evinrude Etec. Thus, Doo/Rotax went from SDI, to DI. DI is more expensive as production cost. But yes it does work well for Doo's sales/market. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why they still sell more sleds than the others???????? Better fuel economy also.

Poo has had the tech for years with Mercury marine.
TBH, I dont know about Cat, but if they dont have it already, Textron is a large company.
Doo, bought Evinrude for etec if Im not mistaken.

Ive never seen an ETEC get significantly better fuel economy in the mtns. Trail riding is just so variable, as far as who is using what throttle input. But in the mtns, you are all using alot of throttle. Maybe the DI just inherently gets better fuel economy, but its clearly not 25% better.

Hey, Im not dogging Doo, they do what they feel is best for their products. Im not blindly brand loyal like alot of people are. Ill buy whatever I think is best for me.
Im just saying Poo doesnt need DI. Heck, I dont want DI.

Yes to each his own, that's choice, and that I believe in. Buy/ride what you like, and want, always!!! I don't intend to bash Poo, or any brand. I don't want to see our choices decrease either.!!! The Mercury marine purchased/licensed their DI tech. I don't remember the name of it as several companies used the same tech, but with different names/licensing agreements. Evinrude also had a design that was very close to that same design. Somewhat of a combination of 2 different techs. Yamaha also has a DI 2 stroke DI tech of there own, but never brought it to their sleds. That surprised many, but Yami's route was to the 4 stroke instead. The Merc DI tech would be almost impossible to adapt to cold weather operation as explained to me by people in the marine industry. Bombardier bought Evinrude to broaden there power sport/watercraft scope. And yes, the DI tech Evinrude was working on was a big part of it. I came to Doo from Poo for many years. It just seemed Doo was willing to push forward with new designs, and tech of all sorts. And a dealer that was very committed to their products, and service of them. As for my experience with both SDI, and DI, both have worked very well. As for the fuel used, the DI has been 20 percent plus better fuel economy. A Poo dealer I know well, who rides the west/mountains, told me that his most want of a new Poo engine was that it be DI. Fuel economy may not be a big deal to most, but it is a real value to us riding in Canada, and other remote areas we ride. I wish Poo, and all mfr's, all the success they strive for!!! Ride whatever your choice, be safe, and enjoy always!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just curious....these SDI and Di engines thou'st speak of....are these the same engines that need rebuilt after 1500 miles and everyone is happy doing that? the same one that tears rings up like running over saplings getting to the warming hut on top? SRT's got it goin on....Im just saying Poo doesnt need DI. Heck, I dont want DI.

some day maybe poo will get caught up to doo. it took poo, what 6-7 years to react to the rev, had a rush in 10,11,12, a little better than the fusion. and now I have the 18 SB axys; pretty good ride and handling. now if poo only had a motor that didn't require pulling a fuel barrel. my new SB 800 gets at best 15 mpg, 600's I've ridden with struggle to get that. my 18 etec gets 19-21; riding both the same. I like to ride & not have to ride from gas station to gas station.

First tank on my 850 Ski-Doo Rene this year was 18.8 MPG, quite amazing for the power.

I laugh when i see all the arguments comparing one sled to another. It makes me giggle. Ride what ya like, and quit wasting time ripping on another sled maker.

95 times out of 100, I have been impressed by what the rider makes the sled do, not the other way around.

Hilarious, in 1983 shop class our instructor used to tell us we had to rebuild a "rotten chester" and scold Chevrolet for putting them on there cars as he said they were junk before being installed.

Only snow check??? Seems somewhat of a odd way to penetrate the market?????????? Leftovers may be the cause??? Still no DI??? I had thought with a new Poo engine it would be DI.

It's very difficult to make a DI engine that can run at snowmobile RPMs. BRP bought some unique technology to do it, and obviously they own the patents to it. Which makes it difficult for the other 3, until those patents expire.

YUP, we talk about this all the time, Chris Brandt, Tucker Hibbert they would make any sled look good if they were riding it. But for them its about who gives them the most $$$$.

Kip, are you going to have a demo 850 this month to test so I would be forced to come back UP?

I think the Ski Doo Sport 600 got a couple Rochesters suckin' wind.

The 850 Indy 'Riot will be just that....I deserve one next season....I think I can go back and find a few posts where I claimed an Indy with a 129 and good set a shocks would sell like phazers in '85.

I hate to say this but I agree with Snobuilder. I deserve one as well.... If that rear skid is as good as they claim this should be a HUGE WIN for Polaris.

Agree with above and also interested if and when these new 850 would be available for a demo ride.
