New Sled Break-In?

Just purchased 2 new 09 MXZ 500 TNT sleds. How long is the break in period and what should I do (or not do) to optimize the break-in?

drive it like you stole it, just make sure it warms up good before you drive it. Gotta seat the rings.

Ask ten different poeple and get ten different answers. I take it these are new left overs?? Your owners manual should give you a recomended break in process and time frame.

the one thing most aggre on is to add extra oil to gas and not keep it at 1 rpm for any amount of time.I do about 70 MI before I give her a full burst now and then after about 100 .I just ride it.

Can't go wrong with checking in with a bona fide Ski-Doo dealer..............do it right or you may have no warranty if something runs amuck.

Do not drive it like you stole it. There is a good article in the latest issue of "snowtrax?" that I read this last weekend which helps validate the importance of the break in procedure. There is also a good reason why the manufactures provide this info, which you can find in your owner's manual.

This is how I break in any new sled or new engine.

Put a little extra oil in the first tank of gas.
Use the same oil you will be running in the oil injection tank. The dealer might have done this already so ask.

For this first tank of gas run the sled varying the RPM's. Do not hold it at a constant RPM for any extended time during this break-in period. Also, NO FULL THROTTLE for this first tank of gas. You can bring it up quick but try not to go over half throttle. Do this for the entire first tank of gas.

After that, Ride it like you stole it!

I only recommend this procedure to you because anyone who has followed it has never had a problem and ended up with a sweet running engine. That is providing it was put together right in the first place. Good luck and have fun!

Your dealer should have spent a good 45 minutes doing a walk around with you on your sled; during this walk around he should have covered this in detail. Go back and ask them to do their job...

Thanks to all...I appreciate your help. I will not be picking up the sleds until late October and probably will not be using them until after the first of the year (depending on snowfall in southern WI).

Well that is different, lol... your just pre- checking what needs to be done...I'm sure your dealer will give you a full explanation at delivery.
