and a '02 XC 600/ ZR 600 /SXR 600 /mxz 600 will school it in the twisties.....LOL....gawd I love this sport!

EDIT....Power steering, heavy pig tank of a Yamaha Apex ( will school it in the twisties)

Your 750 lb Apex will school it in the twisties until you get tired which wont take long. Then the old XCs and ZRs and other low slung editions of the past will just drive on by without much driver input at all. Just steer. It is a very simple formula of center of gravity and weight. The guys on the high new stuff are leaning and doing all kinds of histrionics but it doesn't matter - low is better for tight twisties. I have witnessed this many times on the tight trails of northern Wisc. The shiniest new tin gets dusted by 15 year old junk ridden by guys that know what they are doing. Also once you get to a lake the old 15 year old junk will still top out around 100 or so. Most of the new stuff is geared and clutched to top out around 100 so not much advantage there either. The only advantage of the tall new stuff is in the smaller bumps. However a big hole will still swallow a new sled the same as an older sled. BUT if I were 24 I would have to have something new. Yes, I love this sport 2!!

What's great about the USA, is some folks can walk into a dealer and write a check for whatever they want.... god bless those folks, they keep thousands of folks employed buying the products manufactured year after year... I currently have cats from 01, 04, 06, 08, 10, 11 15, 16 and soon 2017...... There is a a huge difference jumping on the 01 then going to the 2016......I'll take the 16 any day of the week when I go on a 300 mile day trip regardless how flat the 01 may corner.... I ride roughly 3-4K miles a year for the last 27 years and love when the new stuff comes out because it gets better every year for my ageing body....we can discuss all day about weight, cost, cornering, etc,etc,etc,........ I like the new 9000 /YAMACAT
and cant wait to go for a 300 mile day trip on one........

The manufacturers are giving the public exactly what they want, bragging rights. People stopped buying, fun and affordable sleds years ago. Or worse, they wait for them to go on clearance, and buy them at cost. Why would manufacturers want to build them for free? And who made the last 440/340cc sled? No one even remembers or cares. Welcome to the sport everyone created. I guess if you can't afford it, you can always buy used, and or crack jokes about it, eh? ;)

Yeah, yeah, yeah.... who's got the highest invested asset total - I could walk into a dealer and buy anything too, but did I get that asset base by spending wisely, or, now that I have it, should I throw caution to the wind and buy a Lamborghini when an RL would suffice? I will continue subscribing to the former theory. "A fool and his money are soon parted" Enjoy - peace out!

Actually a fool and his money were lucky to get together to begin with.

exactly,

for all these guys saying how great the old iron is and how they can "school" anyone in the twisties then why aren't they riding one?

comparing a 15 year old sled to new technology today is blasphemy.

Just sayin ....to hint that this sport is just for the poser rich bich cult is to say it will be dead soon.

It was avg Joe one lunger who built these trails to get from one pit stop to another and it will up to them and their followers to keep it going.

Sold my last Apex 2 years ago. Went the whole route with the Yami fours. 2 RX1s. 4 Apexes - the last one with power steering. One Vector. They are all gone. For the riding I do they were all too heavy. Ordered first year Viper from Kip but let him keep the $500 bucks after I read about it all summer. Glad I didn't take it. Another heavy pig that won't even go 100. So I have had the newer stuff. I could go out and buy more new stuff if I wanted. But I don't want to. The so-called ride isn't worth it. Most of the guys that buy the new stuff are posers nowadays. I will ride my old junk. I like my old junk. I can fix my old junk. There isn't a bunch of electronic crap to go to ###% on my old junk. And best of all I get to sit on a real seat instead of a football.

Well if riding 3-4K miles a year for the last 27 years, make me a poser because I reward myself with a new sled I take offense to that..... I have old sleds, I have new sleds, I've owned ever manufacture, I've had open trailer, closed trailers, and used the beds of pickup trucks....... I work my @#$ off 12hours a day during the off season....that hard work rewards me with the ability to walking into a dealer and buy whatever I want.... my buying a new sled helps keep thousands of people employed (feeding kids, making car payments, home mortgages,) who are involved thought the entire snowmobile manufacturing process....I have been @#% deep in this sport for 27 years and consider myself the furthest thing from a "poser"........I don't own a backpack, go-pro, shovel, or saw....just a guy that loves to ride.

Now we are arguing about if people have enough $$$ to buy new sleds they are posers???

Some of you clowns need to get a life. Who gives a crap what anybody else rides? Or how much it costs? If want want to ride old iron, that's awesome. You going buy a $19k Yamaha? That's awesome too.
But don't belittle people that ride different than you. It's one thing to raze your buddy who just bought a new ski doo, he probably deserves it anyway.
But this keyboard hero stuff is ridiculous.
"I can out type you in the twisties with my 1985 Apple 2E"

Edit: had to fix spelling so some keyboard hero doesn't jump down my throat.
