Yes, still Yamaha chassis. Refinements include new plastics and new fit and finish to the plastics. Also, the motor is totally designed from the ground up by Yamaha which includes fuel injection and all electrical, it's all totally Yamaha engineered when it comes to the drive train. Also, the individual throttle bodies is huge, this is where the instant throttle response and and instant recovery come from. Yamaha did the turbo to Yamaha standards, they got it right. Also, it's more than 180 HP. We all know the MPI runs 180 HP and this unit has no problem handling the MPI. You can get out of the throttle and get back in it and still pass up the MPI. It works very well. You guys are welcome:) I did not get a chance to ride it in the powder, conditions didn't permit it. Sorry, wish I could help more there.

If I'm reading your post correctly there are portions of the sled that is "Yamaha" but also some parts that are Cat Am I correct? for example when you say "when it comes to the drivetrain it's totally Yamaha engineered". Are there parts of the sled that are NOT totally Yamaha engineered?

Yes, it was assembled in Thief River Falls, its still the AC chassis. But as Kip said, Yamaha drivetrain. By this I assume he means the newly revamped clutches including a new over drived roller secondary. As for gearbox...my assumption is its the same as the new 9000 Thundercat.

The details page on the Sidewinder said "push button reverse". I take that as it's the ACat reverse system.

Thanks kip. I was wondering about the ride and how it handles "in the air". The videos on you tube it looks like there is still some hunting going on and in the corners I could see some ski lift. And what little it was in the air were smooth calculated humps. Would like to see it in some serious chop. Doesn't really matter for it is way out of my price range so hopefully next year when I am up will be able to test one.

.....still some hunting going on and in the corners.....

On one of the Yami promo video's where the SW was taking a fast but gradual LH turn on a sweeping corner, I saw the front end (the RH ski) act something like "catching an edge" and the driver had to let off a touch and correct.

This is the EXACT thing I have experienced more than 1X with my Tuners on my 14 Vector LTX, and it's a scary feeling. Like the sled sled would flip if I was going too much faster. I could learn to deal with the hunting sensation (it's not darting) with the skis....that "almost flipping" feeling is something I've never felt before on any sled.

So now I'm wondering, with this new "flagship" does this spell the end of the Apex?
Does this new model solidify Yamaha/Cat partnership?
Kip, any talk of extending this partnership?

I don't know how long they Apex will be around, maybe one more year would be my best guess. The new Sidewinder I drove was spinning over 9,000 RPM and I don't know if that will be the same as the production ones or not. I do know that it will outrun a 180 HP sled.

That sled (Sidewinder) is sweet guys, Yamaha got it right. You cannot tell it has a turbo on it and it absolutely rips. It may not be for everyone but it is one smooth, silky, fast sled!! It was awesome to be a part of that video shoot and a experience I won't forget:)

So you knew about this! LOL. Where was this filmed at?

Well my 2011 Apex XTX is an awesome sled and I have title in hand and low miles. hmmmmm

Kip - just curios - it appeared the dealers kept this very quiet and really not much was leaked out until 1 day prior to the unveiling. Did Yamaha make you sign a confidentiality agreement or something? I am surprised everyone could keep this type of info and excitement under the radar.

Yes, we have to sign that special little piece of paper:) It was very humbling to be a part of that.

You are gosh dang lucky to be able to take part in something like that!!! You are blessed!

Two questions....how much do you think it weighs and what have they done to the chaincase so that it can take all the HP? It SEEMS as if the chaincase system on the Vipers was of questionable durability.....or so the internet says so.

The chaincases now have been very durable for us even with the turbo and yes I'm blessed for sure to take part in that early ride. I honestly don't know what it adds for weight. I'll try and find that out and get back to you guys.

All I know is it's the same chaincase that's on the Viper and it holds up just fine.
