So as some of you know, I ride a lot over in the LP of MI, Cadillac area, I know they have said they are most likely done for the rear for lack of riders to the area being end of season and the previous warm up.Boy oh boy Idk? Vilas and Oneida are closed and looking at the forecast combined with mid March I really wonder if these counties will open no matter how much snow falls. I think the biggest challenge to opening is heavy wet snow and gusts to 40-50 mph winds bringing down trees on all trails. Clubs will have to have the will and money to do all the necessary work only to have warm weather and sun move in a week and melt it into muddy Spring soup. As far as the UP goes tree damage could shut them down too can’t groom if you can’t get thru. Imo riders will have to wait and see what kind of storm happens then see what clubs want to do. I’m all about managing expectations of any subject and never over expect since that leads to anger and disappointment. Currently I don’t expect Oneida and Vilas to open if there is heavy wind damage with big snow just too much work with very little time to use trails. The UP is a different animal technically can stay open to riders in April without grooming. Idk about UP funds after an active season either. Lots to consider imo.
Yeah, thought I was in the wrong place. Lol. But can't imagine the challenge of having to shovel out every day for a month or more on end. Guessing it may get old. Seems there was somewhat of a snow line, however and our area struggled to have enough snow again this year. So, I'll complain about not having enough and a once again short riding season. I'm to the age/point of not wanting to chase it anymore. I have a small cabin that I enjoy and feel if I'm not using it as often as possible, then it's being wasted. Call me stubborn, but if I can't ride around there, I don't go usually. I can leave right out the yard if the trails are open around me, as the snowmobile trail goes through the attached woods. And even if the trails aren't open, there are logging trails throughout the entire and adjoining property. So, sometimes we just bring the sleds to tool around the property, which family owns. As for vacation down south, this will be the first year in 6 that we aren't going somewhere. While the kid was in college playing baseball, there was a Spring trip every year. 4x in FL and once in TN. Going to be an adjustment this year since he graduated. Can't say as I'd ever want to live down south or FL even after retiring. I enjoy Fall way too much and can't stand weather over 80 degrees. To each their own. Enjoy your trips. Maybe with the fresh dumping we're supposed to get, I'll at least take a joy ride around the property.
Yes, Green Bay yesterday was the bullseye. Today the storm has tracked slightly north with Green Bay being on the southern end of the bullseye.Did that model have 40” of snow predicted for Green Bay Area? I have a follow up appt on Monday there. May drive Saturday instead of Sunday to get there
