NFL over time rules

I am a Bears fan. The fact that you do not have equal opportunity in overtime is pathetic even in college they get a equal chance and they play for free! supposedly The game was lost on a coin flip and that just not right

Yes, it used to be sudden death and now both teams get a chance....UNLESS.... one team scores a TD....HUH?...so it was modified....kind of...?

the game wasn't lost because of the coin flip(s). it was lost because the team didn't cover or tackle a player for a 70 yard gain. if they didn't want overtime, they could have went for 2 after the hail mary.

The unwritten rule is go for two at home, on the road kick the EP and take it to OT. How many times this year have the Packers failed to gain 2 FEET, much less two YARDS?

But yes.....the rules need to be changed. College fball does it right.

That last Hail Mary wasn't really a catch anyway so the game shouldn't have gone into overtime to begin with. But I agree... OT should be 1 more quarter.

The last one in the end zone. He totally did not have control of the ball when he came down. Unless holding the ball with your elbow counts?

You can catch a ball with your knees or feet. That was a catch.

it was a very good game!
Not results that many would want.

Many mistakes depending on the side of the field you are standing.
Just prior to the 2 minute warning, the decision for the Packers to go on 4th down, bad. Punt would have been the better choice, but all this is looking back. You cannot re-write history.

Yes the OT rules are written for TV, not for the game.

It was absolutely a catch. Ball just can't touch the ground in that situation when there is no out of bounce line to worry about.

The biggest mistake IMO was the decision by the Cardinals to try a pass when the Pack was out of timeouts. Had they run the ball, there never would have been a chance for a hail mary. That saved 40 seconds for the Pack on their last drive. Dumb call!

you are missing the point here.
don't matter who missed tackles or what happened the fact that the other team doesn't even get a possession is bush league. it's not sour grapes on my part i said when this new rule came out it was preposterous.
if the NFL wants to speed games up in OT just have each kicker start kicking 35 yard fg's and move back 5 yards until one misses. At least then the losing team could blame their own player instead of the results of a stupid coin flip.

I don't know what game you watched last night or if you don't know what a catch is. He had possession when he hit the ground the ball juggled on his chest but never once touched the ground. even when the DB tried to poke it out when he was on the ground the ball never touched the ground that's a catch all day.

In the past it was first to score any points. Now you have to get a touchdown or the other team gets a chance. They do this because in regular season too many games went too long.

i wasn't hating the call as much the play call. they passed to JJ who didn't catch a pass all game and he's got one of the best DB's in the league blanketing him.
The five yard digs and slants to Janis and Abberdaris were there all night. that pass call was puzzling.

yup if you wanna do in the the regular season fine whatever. the playoffs each team should get a possession. I don't think anyone watching that game would of cared in it went an extra 10 minutes or 1 hour.

really irrelevant az or gb would not take down Carolina.
it is not down to just a coin flip. if that were really the case every team would score every position in every game.
think there are a lot of injuries now give them a extra 15 min of play and see how your play off bench looks.

33 yard punts lost the game.

No. A superior team with healthier players won the game. The inferior team with a 4th 5th and 6th string WR group played a helluva game to make it very entertaining.

We also need a less fat RB. I bet Lacy is 20-30 lbs down next year.

After a terrible 2nd half of year, and beating a mediocre Redskins team, I was very happy with the Packers performance last night. You can't keep the best offense in the NFL down for long. And the Packers did it much longer than expected.

Btw, I do agree. Packers punter is terrible.

Some interesting perspective. I not saying they lost because of a coin flip in over time. I just believe with so much at stake especially in a playoffs that you should get a chance to answer no matter they score a touch down you loose the game because you didn't win the coin toss. This would not add that much more time to the game it would increase the drama the TV net works would get more advertising spots /$ in overtime you are less likely to get up and leave because you know the out come could be decided at any moment
