To me, it's not a matter of how much anyone is paid, Professional athlete or not, it's a matter of respect for your country & all that it has stood for, which has given the rights we ALL enjoy today, including the freedom of speech. It's high time that "professional" athletes in all sports be accountable for their actions. After all, they have a profound impression on our youth and should be held to a higher standard than what has been allowed to be portrayed. (Just like the length of their hair, Dreadful!?!:eek2:) Just my .02.-Mezz

Viewership of NFL games is down 7.8% from last year. You have to wonder how the smartest people in the NFL and the Networks allowed for this to become such an issue. Mis-managed from the start IMO.

Exactly Gary it falls on the worst commissioner in all of sport all time, Mr. "sit under my desk and wait for the storm to blow past" Goddell.

This guy is too clue less to see that the majority of his viewership is white middle aged folks that these African American (some white as well) athletes are pissing off. He could of squashed this last year. You don't stand for the anthem you don't play. He always talks about protecting the "shield" LOL,,,

Now Goddell comes out with some half baked statement that players should stand but if they don't that's there prerogative. Exact kind of stance he takes on everything. Completely wishy washy,, Yah Roger you nim wit that'll bring viewership back. And he makes 50 million a year. Gross incompetence at its best.

Ill play along and give my .02 or maybe its just .01. I would much rather have the athletes stand and I really don't care for Kap...especially since he shredded the Pack defenses too much. But just lookin at the facts, Kap was originally sitting on the bench for supporting people oppressed in the US (and yes there are some) and for police brutality. While I no doubt side with police
(which make up half my friends) there are cases of police brutality, which shouldn't reflect upon the overall "police force," its just a few bad ones and every profession has them. Here's where it gets mixed up. Cap was taking heat for not respecting the anthem/flag, and yes i was not a fan of his actions, and he spoke specifically that he did not want to disrespect the military/flag/anthem. So he met with a Green Beret and former long snapper Nate Boyer. Nate, the Green Beret, came up with the idea of taking a knee, which actually is a sign of respect. So in essence, we are blasting him for taking a knee that he was instructed to do to show respect directly form a military person.
My opinion of it....well I am a strong believer of the US Constitution and its 27 amending Articles and Article 1 protects this peaceable protest. I may not agree with the protest but i do believe in protecting the rights and viability of our constitution. I believe in the right to peaceable protest for all but you also bear the consequences of that protest. Now, the owners have the right to fire any and all of the players who protest and fans have the right to stop watching/buying/etc....

this on PFT this morning...

The NFL’s national television ratings are down 7.8 percent this year, but it’s not just the national TV audience that’s struggling: The vast majority of teams are seeing their local ratings down as well.

According to Albert Breer of TheMMQB.com, 25 of 31 teams are drawing lower local numbers than they did in 2016. The Chargers aren’t included in that number because they’re playing in a new market this year, although it’s clear that the Chargers are struggling with their local fan base as well.

Most teams in the NFL are down by more than 5 percent. The Jets, playing in America’s biggest television market, are down a whopping 37 percent. Only three teams — the Chiefs, Buccaneers and Lions — have improved their local ratings by more than 5 percent.

Ratings fluctuate from week to week and year to year, and the NFL has mostly shrugged off the ratings decline of the last two years. But when virtually every team in the league is drawing fewer viewers on local television than last year, that points to a bigger problem than the NFL has publicly acknowledged.

Protesting in front of a captive audience that had absolutely no intention of becoming a part of your protest is busch league at best.

Here is an idea if you protesters have the balls.....there is this thing called your off season.....why not collectively get together and organize rallies to serve your cause. Travel from city to city and keep track of the turnout. Until then, man up and stop sucking off your employer, the NFL, to provide you with an audience.

Now it moves over to the NBA, Pistons home opener.

Pistons fans cheer Eminem and boo Kid Rock at home opener

CNN -

The Detroit Pistons played their opening home game Wednesday night at Little Caesars Arena to a crowd that included Eminem and Kid Rock. The two Michigan musicians are among the most politically vocal, although on opposite sides of the spectrum.

Both were shown on the video screen at the game. Fans cheered as Eminem asked the crowd to "make some noise" for the team's first game in its new arena as his song "Lose Yourself" played. When Kid Rock was shown on the screen, however, he was booed, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Unlike the NFL, NBA rules prohibit players from kneeling during the National Anthem, but Pistons' coach Stan Van Gundy said Eminem's appearance still sent a message.

"Without making a statement, they were able to make a statement," he said.

Last Thursday, Eminem slammed President Donald Trump in a freestyle rap that aired at the BET Hip-Hop Awards. Eminem called Trump a "racist 94-year-old grandpa" and a "kamikaze that will probably cause a nuclear holocaust." Trump has not responded.

Kid Rock, however, has been supportive of Trump, meeting him in the Oval Office in April with Sarah Palin and Ted Nugent. He's also floated a possible Senate run, selling "Kid Rock for Senate" merchandise in July before putting a decision on hold and saying he would promote voter registration. He played several shows at Little Caesars Arena earlier this year, offering fans a chance to register at the venue.

Although NBA players can't kneel for the anthem, the Cleveland Cavaliers locked arms during the anthem before their opening game Tuesday, and LeBron James wore black Nike shoes that said "Equality" on the back.
