anyone know why Baraga club is not grooming trail 8 from three lakes to the trail 109 split
nothing but a goat path with 3 ft of snow and ran across a closed gate yesterday
the Pipe Line trail was brutal ....looks untouched all year
I must have missed something ...the Moose Country Snowmobile Club had their section on trail 8 groomed up nice

They didn't have enough snow to work with until recently. The thaw we had wiped their snow out. With this recent storm, I'm sure they will get at it now that they have something.

I hear that mezz. However no surprise what so ever with this trail, as it's the same thing every year, year after year. Snow, too much snow, or not. It only seems to get worse, as they continue to let it get worse, and worse. To the point the trail can't be groomed back into decent shape, and becomes dangerous. Sad, but so it is! I realize they have a bad, and difficult section north of Alston, but it could be groomed much better than Barage is capable of. Now, they won't even groom to Alston! Send your complaints to the Baraga/Lanse Chamber of Commerce, and the DNR. This as the Baraga Tourism group, will do nothing but be DISHONEST with you. That has been proven time after time. Very sad, as it doesn't have to be this way, it's such a beautiful, gorgous area to ride!

I love the pipeline and is one of our regular routes. Disappointed to hear about those conditions just ride. I will be that way in two weeks so I hope the club gets it together soon.

Who hasn’t ridden the pipeline? I would guess a lot less will since grooming has been going down hill last couple of years. No idea why but once the progression starts down it seems to take a long time to become reliable again. Doubtful it’s funds more likely a people problem best guess. Nobody wants to put their time in the wee hours to set a groom.

this section is a pretty key link to crosscountry riding to da east and seems to always be iffy......they also have a new head of tourism over in Baraga and she does'nt seem to take the snowmobile trail part very serious.

Last year I know riders that turned back on the pipeline thought process was it wasn’t worth it too rough. When I went up for my week long trip we wrote the pipeline off not many alternatives with 109 shut down for eastward ride. 8e is always iffy and not the type of trail we wanted to ride. My views were if Baraga and Lanse don’t want our business then so be it we’ll ride elsewhere.

Perfect, as you nailed it Winter Warlock! The Baraga Tourism Council has so many, unbelievable, invalid, and dishonest excuses. Nothing new here on this! Such as this issue has been continuing to get worse as the years pass by. Yes, they do have several difficult trail areas, but even as those area conditionds become workable, seems they don't even try? Thus, all "Trail Condition Complaints", need to be absolutely directed to the Baraga Chamber of Commerrce, and the area DNR office. This in order to get the attention that's necessary. It is so very sad, as this doesn't have to be this way! This area absolutely needs a "new trail grooming group", period? Such as SORVA, has done with the Munising area trails, and the Sidnaw area club have done, a absolutely great job, in reversing their "Bad Trail Conditions", of the years past! The jury is still out on the Bergland area trails? However it appears to be looking good, as for their much needed improvement.

I will echo the sentiment of this post. My buddy and I have been riding in the U. P. since 1995 and this section of trail has always been consistently bad. While Moose Country does an excellent job keeping their section of Trail 8 well groomed, for some reason there always seems to be an excuse for the Baraga section. One year, I checked the trail reports for this section which said they were just groomed only to find out they hadn't been touched for weeks. After calling the Tourism Council I was told their equipment was to large to groom that area of the trail. With Trail 8 being a major east/west corridor I cannot believe the DNR continues to let this happen. I agree a new organization needs to take over the grooming from the Tourism Council as I have seen the vast improvement in the Munising trails once SORVA began grooming.

Spot on you are, for weeks! And this continues to go on, and on. Baraga Tourism Council is well known to be dishonest, with their excuses! They just plain don't even try to groom some of their trails period!

Yeah, our group has pretty much written off Baraga as a destination.... we really did like staying at the Casino and jumping off there, usually stayed 3-4 days in the area.....have been taking the sleds an our money elsewhere.... too bad....

LOL! Afraid not! No fault here, no matter the sled, or operator. This is as no GROOMING, eh! Go for it, rip'er up!
It might even help the trail conditions..BWAHAHA.
I especially like it when the Mohawk helmet dude comes flying from off-trail and uses the trail as a jump, doesn't look either way and roosters tails it in front of you while almost injuring you both.

It's more like this, have they got up enough ambition, to even try to go out and groom, eh! This grooming group can only be described as Disgraceful, at best, eh!

Has anyone ridden the pipeline recently? We are supposed to head that way today. Any reports would be great. Thanks

We were through the Baraga area last weekend. Nestoria trail was fair but maybe groomed once this year! The pipeline had been groomed a couple of times and on the way back had been groomed again....good. Coming from Big Bay on their section of trail: we had just rode 24 miles of fresh...DOUBLE GROOMED.. on Big Bay 500 trail and at baraga line it was piss poor! There was plenty of snow until you got right down to Lanse then the snow was ok .......stopped to talk to the groomer at Baraga convention and tourism, he was fueling up, mentioned how poor Nestoria was and coming back from Big Bay. He said they were going to be ON IT this week, we'll see, we're going through Nestoria tomorrow.
