I hope you enjoy the riding in that area firefighter1. I have ridden there since the late 60's. I worked at Elbow Lake Store for a couple of summers and also guided for a resort on Elbow Lake before there were groomed trails in the early 70's. There are lots of pit stops for food and fuel and some decent scenery .

North Dakota is where all the snow is!!!

For me, and I think most of northern mn is at the point now that there is enough snow to have a base of snow to work with for trails. That doesn't mean that conditions are like mid season, it just means that there is enough snow to start grooming and riding trails but for the most part its still early season conditions.

The pinehurst area might be a good option for you. I have only ridden the area one weekend a couple of years ago, but was pleasantly surprised with how good the trail system and terrain was. The bonus right now for that area is, if memory serves me, the trails in the area are on forest roads so no worries about lack of frost in swamps and it doesn't take a huge amount of snow for good conditions.
