Not groooming trails..?

Maybe I am wrong to be complaining about this but yesterday myself and a couple other buddy's went up and dropped off in Frederic and took the trail along old 27 north through gaylord then to Indian River. There defiantly was plenty of snow. Over two feet south of Indian River. For some reason the trail from Frederic to Vanderbilt was not groomed. The groomers were still sitting at the south end of Otsego Lake covered in snow. Vanderbilt to Indian River was groomed thank God and thank you to them for grooming. Anyway..the trail up to Vanderbilt has not been groomed even though there was a plenty of snow. At the end of the the trails were in such bad shape, us and a couple other groups at the trail head started talking how the groomers would be able to get the trails in decent condition again with the current conditions they were in. They would need at least a foot maybe more to fix the trails. There were some moguls that were 3 feet plus deep.

The trail permits went up $10 bucks this year and I believe they should be grooming. I pay it and would expect the trails to be groomed by now. Operating costs should be down from last year. Don't get me wrong that I am complaining about the cost of trail permits. I feel the permit should be $50. In my opinion $35 is pretty cheap to ride on the trials for a year. $50 is nothing in reality.

The other thing that bothered me about this is that some trail reports I read from the grooming sites and a another said that the trails were being groomed.

I just wanted to express my frustration with the Gaylord area trail system. With all the recent snow that fell I just expected the trails to be groomed.

This is just my opinion and wanted to share to see what others thought.

sorry about some of my typing/spelling. Was very frustrated in the lack of grooming as it seems that Gaylord usually is on top of it. However on a positive note Indian River did a great job. Tons of snow up there off trail as well. I do want to say stop into Indian River Power Sports. They are the new dealer up there for Arctic Cat and Yamaha. They also sell KLIM. We stopped in there talked to one of the guys. Very nice people. Helped us out for an hour. We bought two of the KLIM F4 helemts and back packs. They gave us a great deal on the product and helped us with fitting the helmets. Let us leave our other helmets there so we could use the new ones. The KLIM helmets are great! Kept my head cool and reduced my sweating 100%. Stop in there and support them. Great people.

i rode near gaylord on saturday and the trails were very bad!! WE left from higgins lake where the trails were groomed all thru grayling until we got to gaylord. Do they now how much $$$ not grooming is going to affect local business? If I owned a local business that got a large amount of patronage from snowmobilers I would be complaining to the local government.

My thoughts exactly. People are going to remember how much pain their body was in after the ride through Gaylord and not want to come back. I know I am going to avoid the area for a while just because I don't want to take the chance of runing into that again. The part that makes me really up set is that the gaylord area reports said that Gaylord was grooming and they obvisouly are not..

I understand, the season starts 12/1 but gernertally speaking I feel the committment is to get the trails ready for Christmas. Other factors is the expense of grooming, (economic's)
water holes groomers gettting stuck etc., lets face it some clubs have to manage with less.

They have a tread on HSC about this. According to that they have a few problems such as insurance, land owner permission and money for fuel, other then that there ready to go!!

Spoke to a groomer driver on Friday night, they were grooming what they could, but some land owners didn't want them out there until the 15th, and primarily this was for insurance reasons.

I think at this point we can all hold our shirts on and keep our shorts from getting in a bundle over it, we're almost all either open or less than 24 hours from it.

I call BS on these excuses. They know that the season opens on Dec 1. so they should plan to have these things taken care of by that date. I think the reason might be because they have not received $$$ from the state for fuel yet??

trails in Wis don't go by the dates as much as the TRAIL Coordinator has to approve it opening!!! I remember one year he had not made it to the manitowish waters area and we had reservations in that area!!!now that I think about it--that was the last trip we ever made to Wisc now we just keep on going to the UP!!!

No the lakes have nothing to do with it. Just very disapointed for how much snow there is the the NWL for them not to be grooming.

All the private landowner easements in my area say dec 15th. Part is due to deer hunt and part is because the farmers like to keep the corn up as long as possible due to the drying costs these days. PLEASE PLEASE check to make sure the trails are actually open in your area before you ride. (snow on the ground and grooming does NOT make it so.) These landowner easements do not protect the owner from liabilty/damage till the 15th of dec thru march 30th. Every other year i have to get about 30 landowners sign for another 2 years. And everyone usually has a complaint. This isnt the first year of this. And local businesses have ZERO say in this whatsoever, so please try not to take it out on them by avoiding them. The only reason there are trails in most of this state is because of a very small precentage of folks who go back to these landowners with hat(and easement) in hand and beg for forgiveness and for another couple years of premission to cross their property. Please remember all this when you complain that you couldnt go out exactly the next day after it snows.

OH YEAH! Also remember to stay right, dont drink and ride, and run citgo sea and snow oil!
(that should about cover it for controversial topics here) :)

My guess is they are wanting things to freeze up, so groomers don't cause more damage than good! Late start to winter didn't help!

for reasons above is why I got in to off trail riding in the first place.3ft moguls for 75mi and we said anything is better than this **** lets cut down some of these logging roads and see where they go.digging and bouncing off trees is better than than the **** of 3ft moguls .if you hated that stay away between xmass and new yr never been up at that time and had good trails for more than a few hrs and allot of cowboys taking very wide turns at 90

Gave up on Gaylord a long time ago. Only ride in the UP now. First winter at the new cabin in Taq. Falls should be a good one.
