OEM, Gates or Carlisle Input needed

I have a outdoor power equipment business and use a lot of belts, try to use oem if possible but also use aftermarket as well and in some cases are better than oem, saying that I know that there are 2 primary manufacturers for most belts out there, gates and Carlisle. I run cat's a 2007 f-1000 and a 2017 eltigre 8000 2 stroke. F-1000 needs belt and looking for spare for 2017, I have heard in past that some aftermarket compounds can be too hard, I also understand that oem is always best but would argue not always best and sometimes aftermarket exactly the same as oem. Having said that I have access to gates belts and was wondering if anyone has any input on good or bad about them.

I like the gates belts. Been using them for a few years on on a few different Polaris 600's. I like them better than the Carlisle I seem to get better longevity from the Gates.

Personally, I would stick with the OEM belt. Especially on your 2017, on the 07, if you can find a replacement for it in either a Gates or a Carlisle that is equal in strength & will actually save you more than just a couple of bucks then get it. The 1000 cc has an expensive azz belt. Keep this in mind, no matter which one you settle on, they require a proper break in, that really is where many premature failures occur because they were not properly broken in. Just my .02.-Mezz

I am done buying OEM spare belts. The Gates for my 18 600 Renegade was only $52.95 including shipping. Since I buy a new sled each year I just leave it on the sled as a bonus for the next buyer.

Hello Abe,
I did have a new 2017 600 XCR but sold it and bought a renegade.

Maybe Dan will forgive me and let me try his new 800?

I use OEM Arctic cat belts on my High Country 800. Back in the day I'd run after market belts but now the horsepower is much more than 90's or even mid 2000's. If you break in a belt right it will last a long time. Watch eBay or Country cat site. They have sales on the drive belts.

Hello Abe,
I did, (bought a new 2017 600 XCR in April of 2017 when it was almost free and sold it in October when Poo had the same sled for sale for 10k), I never even had a chance to ride it.

Simultaneously, I bought a new 2017 600 Renegade (with snow show money at a mega bargain) and a 2018 600 Renegade for less than the XCR I just sold.

I looked at the resale in March 2018 and the Doo will bring the most.

Maybe Dan will forgive me and let me try his new 800?

Thank you everyone for your input and yes mezz the belt for my 1000 is an expensive azz belt, almost *%@! a brick when I heard, I am going to give gates a try on my 1000 and get one as a spare for the eltigre, I had one but surrendered it to someone who needed it worse than I did, again thank you for all of your input it is greatly appreciated

Here my 2 cents...
I had a 2000 MXZ 700 I used both OEM and aftermarket belts over the years. Then I started noticing a clicking sound when using the aftermarket belts. This was after rebuilding the engine one time. So I was specifically listening for sounds. It may or may not have made the same noise before the rebuild. The clutch was not touched so it should not have affected anything either way. What I can say is when testing things I noticed the sounds was only there when using the aftermarket belts... Now this could be just that sled or it could be the belt... Either way I have been buying OEM ever since. And when I bought my 2015 ZR9000 I was very worried about the belt issues. Knock on wood I have had none... I have also found belts in the $100 range so no complaints there either. Amazon has dealerships selling for $113. eBay has dealerships selling new as well in the same price range. I have also noticed eBay sending coupon codes out this time of year for between 10% & 15% off. I picked up a 0627-082 belt for $94 just the other day.

I ran OEM belts on my 09 XP800 for the first year or so without issue, but they invariably needed to be changed around 1000-1100 miles. I started running the gates Carbon cord and have them on the sled for 1400-plus miles, and change them because I dont want to have an issue. I also seem to get a couple of miles and hour out of the gates and better hole shots runnning against my buddies PO800 2016 sled..

who here honestly thinks they are manufacturing belts at any oem?
rebranded all of them . who do you think is making them for the oem?

Agree ezra. But the OEM's are built to the sleds MFR specs. And they are somewhat different such as compounds, angles, length, costs, and so forth. I am not implying they are one bit better than the replacement branded belts.
