So the dog finally did it!! After 21 years here she finally tangled with a skunk last night around 9pm, I have never smelled something so nasty. Smelling a dead skunk on the road is no comparison!!! I got her smelling pretty good but the smell is in the house and i'm not sure how to get it out. Going to try cleaning the carpet this morning and scrubbing the walls. She came in the back door and I sent her straight out the door into the garage, she wasn't in the house for more that 30 seconds!! You should smell the garage!! My poor sled smells like a skunk now too!!!

Our dog has done that twice now in the last two years! The first time we put her in the garage and had to wash everything in the garage and we could not park our cars in the garage for at least a week. We also left the garage doors open for a week trying to "air it out" We also tryed every type of shampoo and internet options we could find. None of them worked well. After giving them a bath as much as you can tolerate, the only thing that seems to work is time. It took over six months to get completely get rid of the smell. For at least six months, everytime the dog gets wet there was the skunk smell. The second time we immediately shaved her in the area where she got hit. That seemed to help more than anything else we have tryed. She looked rather funny with her new shaved look but I give my wife credit for blending it in as well as she did. However, she still smells when she gets wet. Good luck. By the way, does anyone know of the best way to get rid of a skunk? Lol.

This works great for skunks, it is from the Wisconsin Trappers Association:

Mix all ingredients together in an open bucket.
1 quart hydrogen peroxide
1 cup baking soda
1 teaspoon liquid dish soap

Use a sponge or cloth to wipe animal. Just like you are giving them a bath with shampoo. Keep out of eyes.

The only thing that works better is a leash. :)

That formula may work great for skunks, but you won't catch me bathing any skunks, thank you! :p

Here, just busy working 7 days a week, potty training Ruger, and trying to get an hour or 2 of hunting in also now I have to fix the kids truck cause he wrecked last Wed. when he was home from college. He's ok not hurt but the truck not so much. HOLY CRAP I just looked at the calender its almost December guess I better start the sleds and blow the cob webs outta them, that 100 miles I put on them last year might have worn them out.

Bradzoooooooooo living the dream!!!! HAHHAHHA
