Please Slow Down And Be Careful On Corners

Three families had a great trip this past weekend and home based out of Peppermill in Rockland. I had the two boys with me on the two up and Saturday morning right out of Mass City, we almost got side swiped by a younger guy riding a Rush. I am sure he had to clean his drawers as he threw us a snow shower and my wife was right behind us and was none to impressed. Please slow down on corners and be careful. I understand traffic is low but this group just took off from a T and maybe had a block before this turn just north of Mass by the powerlines so I am still trying to wrap my head around who this person was trying to impress? Appreciate it.

Must have been Ricky but have not seen him much this year on trails & don't miss him either. This year most have been very good about staying right & riding within sane twisty speed limits in both WI & MI but traffic has been very light. Getting dusted is going to happen never been on trails when I didn't get dusted by oncoming traffic to me just the way of it & used to it by now.:)

Had a Ricky come around a corner last year in my lane, he braked and slid sideways into my A-arm spindle. The impact sent him up into the pickers (rolled up his running board too).

I had been dodging Rickys all that day, and when this one hit me, I hit about 9K on my pizzed off tack.......yelled at him to slow down, as a family coming around a corner may not have evaded a worse collision than I was able to... I also smacked his helmet, and knocked him down (not too proud of that part) my wife had to jump in between....

She also had to give a speech to the guys he was riding with, in her "Mom voice"..... :)

Hopefully, they all learned something that day, but probably not... :(

pretty good week overall with the ricky's..only had one close left hander..but the one that struck me as odd was I was on 3..pulled over to left on the straighaway(on opposite side going towards Parkview) next to the power lines..just marveling at the skill and daring these guys have to ride these big cavernous spots..when 5 sleds blew by without slowing down or checking me to make sure ok..but they had just seen me so musta assumed..but still maybe just a little slow down..

and am still amazed that sled coming at me..alot of them don't slow at all..i always slow a little and get over as far as I can..

but overall no problems so no complaints...

Yep got to be careful with the smackdown part I have felt the same way gone nose to nose with aholes but always keep my hands behind my back or sides never seems to help anyway. Ricky could charge you with assault just claim he slid out on ice & you overreacted. Stay right hope for the best keep temper in control & enjoy the ride.:)

Speaking of not stopping when you're stopped, me and my buddy were a few miles south of South Range 10:30 at night this past friday night, both our sleds off to the side of the trail for a bathroom break and shutdown. Here comes 2 sleds so my buddy flashes a flashlight so they knew we were there, as they approach, they just kept on flying by. LIKE REALLY! It's 10:30 at night! I stop no matter what time of the day, don't even need to come to a stop just give them a thumbs up and if the give you a thumbs up back you keep on going! Jeez...

Sleds were completely off the trail, just didn't want to spook anyone! I just don't get it, I've met some of the nicest people snowmobiling, I try my best to return the favor.

Along the lines of this subject here's my story of my accident 2 years ago on a saturday MLK weekend. It was late sat morning going on trail 1 from Marrenisco, MI to Pres Isle, WI. I was going south and there was a blind curve with a stop sign ahead. I was going pretty slow but when I went around the curve there was another rider stopped about 2/3rds on my side of the trail pointed north. (we was looking back at his group at the stop sign the other riders didn't start out yet.)

My first though was I was going to hit this guy head on and he wouldn't see it coming. I veered off the trail to my right narrowly missing him but my right ski caught the outer edge of forrest sign and flipped me and the sled over to my left on the trail. When I landed on the trail I hit first with my right elbow on the trail which was hard as ice. The sled cracked the windshild broke off the left side mirror and dented the right ski. The person and the group were so nice about it after they helped me I got the name of the person and have left it at that.

My right elbow still isn't 100% I couldn't lift weights for months couldn't ski because I couldn't plant my right ski poll. I went to the hospital and doctor xrays were negative. The rest of the season I wore my son's hockey elbow pad, when riding. It was slow motion nothing else was hurt but I was wearing my tec vest. One reason why I didn't ride this saturday MLK weeken

My new favorite nickname for day riding maniacs..... Braapers.

You should never ride faster than the trail conditions allow for, but its **** of a lot safer at night.

After nearly 10,000 miles of riding in 3 years, about half has been at night. Zero accidents or close calls at night, 1 accident and dozens of close calls during the day.

x2..although we ride all day and all night sometimes..u just cant beat the peacefulness at night, let alone the fact that its tons safer..and u can see if anyones coming at u..maybe ill change my name to NIGHTRIDER!!!!!!

Oh yea...OK I get it. So I should only ride at night (which I don't enjoy) so Ricky Sheethead can ride fast during the day? Not happening here. Some little kid riding in front of Mom or Dad is going to get a sled in the chest and God forbid not make it. There will be a big uproar for a week or two, then it'll be back to the same ole' same ole'.

Sorry to always be the storm cloud in the sunny skies folks but it is what it is out there. Either we change the sport or it will be changed for us.

that's not what we r referring to totally, safety is a bi-product of night riding..in reference to kids..they should not be leading..no way would I have my kids leading up in the UP..they would be in the middle of adults only..if it was just me and a12 or 13 year old, I would not be in the main UP, I would be at home or nearby... probably controversial..just my .02$

Yeppers "knightrider" I like that better than "nightrider" LOL..... keep kids in the middle of the pack tell them to stay put protect from front & rear & for me never on MLK weekend took them at off times during the week on wideopen trails in UP in the 90s good times.:)

Ricky? Braapers? FYI The correct term is a "Joey"...short for Joey Biler...which is short for Joey Snowmobiler...and his son is Joey Jr... :)

My friend and I have about had it with Ricky. We both wear communicators and mirrors and are pretty aware of our surroundings as much as possible. We are not speed demons, and we are very ok with letting faster sleds go around us. Lately it's not bad enough that Ricky can't wait five seconds for us to give him a window to pass us, but now he has to fly past as soon as he feels ready and showers us with crap as he flies by. Also, more and more Rickys think its really cool to pull wheelies as they pass from the opposite direction. WTH, how stupid can you be? Some of this stuff just wipes out all the enjoyment of a nice day on the trails.

X2, riding this past weekend I saw a group of sleds with a father leading and a young child in front of him on the seat! Our group saw that and we we stopped we were all like " did you see that guy with the kid leading, he is nuts" Kids should be in the middle, i would never allow them to lead. I ride with my kid on in front of me but we are always in the back or middle, as I do not need to get taken out around the corner with him in front of me!
