ahhhh, Posion Ivy. I am the pro at catching the stuff. My yearly cycle of getting it ussually goes something like this. Murshroom hunting and turkey hunting in the spring, catch posion ivy. September getting the duck blind ready, catch posion ivy. Oct/November treee stands, deerhunting, firewood cutting, catch posioin ivy. And yes you can catch it in the dead of winter. I did a couple of years ago while cutting firewood which had a large vine wrapped around the entire tree. Got it all over my face and lips from the saw dust that time. Let me say that was a gooooood time.... How to get rid of it really depends on how bad you have it and how your body reacts. I am terribly sensative to posion ivy, obviously from the above story. If you can tolerate it and its not "weeping" and "oozing" to badly time will heal on its own. If the "oozing" refuses to crust on its own so as to begin the drying process and the itch is really bad you may need to contact your doctor to get a steriod dose pack which speeds up the bodys healing process. If you have it really bad in large patches. For instances one time I had it so bad on my forearm that if I were to hold my arm vertically the "oozing" was so bad the fluid would run down my arm and actually drip off my elbow. If this is the case you really need to see a doctor so they can prescribe a really potent high dose steriod. Sorry for being candid with my description but I know how miserable this can be and share anyones pain who has a bad case of posion ivy. This has been my experience. I am lucky enough to have a family friend as a doctor. So I keep all the prescibed medicines on hand at home since i have had really extreme breakouts on weekend days. For instance the time I got it on my lips was on a Sat. Thank go i had the drugs. If you do get a prescription ask for a refill so you can always have one on hand.
Hope this helps
