my sled ain't a 550. But, I had an 01 550 and after having it rebuilt, it had 140 psi. I think you're definatly right on the "125" is brand new. After 4000 miles on the rebuild, it had 125-130 psi

The 2007+ 550 fans have different cylinders, pistons, crankcase, and oil pump from your 2001. I think your gauge is high if you are seeing 140psi on any fan cooled sled with a stock head.
Since you seem to compression check everything what does a Polaris 600HO have normally?

Don't own one but should run in the 130 range. O wait, that's brand new.
