Polaris FST red hot exhaust can

Brother in law went riding with me today about 10 miles from cottage the engine light came on then went off but after that he felt his boot getting hot, stopped and opened the hood and the exhaust can was bright red hot any ideas what would be causing this. The sled is a 2006 Polaris FST 750

That was our first thought but was not sure because we had about 75 miles on before it started happening

Temp was at 165 idling and 150 running down the trail. The can was glowing red hot and he also said he could here it making a popping sound. We toke the side cover off to get it back. Was running Premium

I have a 2006 FST Classic and both the pipe and can glows bright orange. Perfectly normal, nothing to worry about. You will feel the heat all of the time by your feet, it's the nature of a turbo, lots of heat.

I installed the side panels and cut out the back side to let ot breathe i also wrapped the pipe with high temp header wrap and i dont get all the heat on your feet . You get just enough

Agree scary but normal for FST. Some don't see it unless dark out.

My o4 without turbo glows red on the pipe, that's how they burn the bad air crap out of the exhaust just like the catalitic converter does on the cars. nothing to worry about unless this is the first time it's happened that you know of.

In the first post he said the engine light came on. To me that would indicate a problem. It may not be the exhaust causing the engine light but apperantly there is some type of problem. The can on my 07 has a an aluminum cover with insulation on it so maybe thats why I don't see mine glowing. But I will say there is no doubt it keeps your foot toasty. And I kinda like that:)

The light was going on and off at times the remaining miles home. The pipe and turbo were not red hot just the can, you coiuld see it through the holes in the aluminum cover. He said it had all the power but when he acelerated it would make like a missing sound or backfire type noise.

Have him take it to his dealer and they will tell him what the code was. Could be an O2 sensor. Either way, he needs to get the code cleared or the check engine light will stay on.

I don't know about 06 but they have to be similar, there's a plug around the handelbar riser under the hood, it takes a 30 amp bar fuse like in the cars (30 amp = Green), my manual tells you to push the fuse in & out 3 times within 2 seconds on the third push it in, count the blinks till they stop then count the second series (example code 32 will be 3 blinks pause then 2 blinks, a serries of 6 blinks means the sequence has ended, if you can't find the code definition let me know as my manual has em. The codes are for all the sensors in the engine and will be stored in the computers memory till you disconnect the battery cable. Possibly you have a sensor malfunction as if the glowing red hot was normal why would the mil light go on. BTW mine is 2004

What will be blinking when you push the fuses in and out, the light on the speedometer display or some other light.
