Polaris IQ Verses Fusion

I have been told the IQ is just a Fusion with new body work, does anyone know how true that is?
With a new baby comming in a 2 months I think funds may be a little tighter and a new sled is out of the question for this year for sure.
I was going to try to find something around 5k or under. My other question is how similar is the ride of these two sleds to a rev I rode one last year and liked the ride but can not buy Skidoo just out of spite to a relation of mine that feels there is NOTHING BETTER funny he owns one
I guess what I am looking woundering is the addtional money for an IQ is worth it or just buy a good used fusion. Currently I have a 01 xcsp Polaris edge that just about kills me after a long day of riding.

Being a Polaris guy I went from a Pro X to a Fusion to a IQ RMK.

The only thing different for the most part is the plastic. You could put IQ plastic on a Fusion and you would have NO idea it started as a Fusion. Year to year they made changes to the steering geomotery but that really has nothing to do with the Fusion vs. IQ.

2006 Fusion 600 is a GREAT sled and you will be very happy with it. DON'T buy a 900 or 700 you'll be sorry.

Same chassis..different plastic. Your best bet is the 600, alot of people will say stay away from the 700 and 900, but if all the updates are done they are ok too.

There are more BAD 900's then Good. Even if they run they rattle and you can hear them from miles away.

600 HO is a perfect motor.

I also went from a 02 700xc to a 900 fusion to 800 switchback, the ride on the fusion is very comfortable, the adjustable handlebars are great if you dont need a riser. I never had a problem or even blew a belt in my 900 but I would a agree go with the 600ho. Night and day different from your edge chassis to the fusion/iq. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Aside from minor tweaks in the sled from year to year, the fusion is the same as the IQ. Polaris just changed the name because the 700 and 900 motors were such garbage that they didn't want that stigma to follow that new rider forward style with them forever.

That being said, go for a Fusion, but make sure it is a 600HO. There is a reason the 900 Fusions are so cheap, they are complete garbage. We had one in our group and he finally gave up on it after dumping big money into Team secondaries, pipes, cans, anti-rattle trap gadgets, etc. He went with an XP renegade.

If you suck up your pride a little you can find a nice 06 rev for $4,000 and have an even better sled :) But I understand where you are coming from.

They had some different motor mounts and spindles and plastic parts that have been stated above already. Don't listen to the stories about the 900 Fusion being garbage. In 2005 they had problems, but in 2006 it was solid, just make sure it has the updates done. I have 6000 miles on my 900 without a single problem. You should be able to get a 2006 900 for about $4k, or a 2006 600 for about $3k. That being said, my next sled will be a 800 etec renegade:)

I had a gen II 12 years ago and really liked it, that sled felt like it was on rails on the corners but that was 12 years ago, remember how you felt 12 years ago and how long it took to recover
The edge rode a lot better and had way more motor. The edge isn't a bad sled just things have progressed so far since than, I had been smart enough to stay off the newer sleds until last year and felt the rider forward design and really liked it

I have a 06 700 (755) IQ RMK. It has 1600 miles on it. NO Problems so far. It is heavy and shakes alot. I did ALL the recall and update stuff along with many other updates. I also bought the 4 yr. Extended warrenty. I had Polaris verify that my changes would not void such warrenties. Polaris stated that I improved the sled greatly. I would have no fear of the. 600 motor, but you will need to spend some extra coin on the 700. Stay clear of the 05 900. Snowest has a section dedicated to these sleds mentioned and go into great detail.

The biggest difference between the IQ chassis and the fusion chassis is the steering geometry changes. The IQ steering on my 2008 is way lighter and easier to steer than my buddies 2006 fusion 600HO. The rear skids are practically identical. There were some different shock packages as well but there are a lot of similarities.

If you do go with the fusion stay with the 600HO IMO. Have friends that own a '05 900 and an '06 700. The '06 700 actually shook worse than the 900 and the 900 is not that great. The buddy that has the 900 has spent a lot of time tweaking and adjusting his sled and for the most part it does run very well now but it is high strung! One of the biggest down sides to the 900 is starting it on cold days. It is a good thing that its fuel injected because I'm not sure if it would start after sitting out overnight if the temp is below zero. It still takes some patience to start though.

Good luck with the search....

If your edge is an 800 I am interested in it. Send pics to me with detailed info on the sled.

I have an 01 500 xcsp edge and an 00 1/2 xcsp 600 Edge no 800's but I did see an 800 in the polaris classified ads.
I am going to sell the 500 which is in better shape than the 600 but I most likely will ride the 600 when my wife comes along and I like the 600

X2 if you liked the Rev buy one nothing like it in the vintage you are considering. I like XP better more relaxed position but if you liked the Rev go for it great sleds that forced entire industry to go with rider forward platforms.

If you get the 600 Fusion, be sure to take a look at the carb boots. The boots were "updated" but not recalled. Mine failed and the whole engine then needed to be rebuilt.

Fun sled to ride though. With a set of bergstrom wear bars and shims, it isn't that hard to turn.

I also threw on some bergstoms and shims on my 06 600. Best and cheapest option to correct the hard steering. Pick one up it's a great sled.

My 700's carb boots were torn and dry rotted at 3miles on it. I lucked out and spotted it before a melt down. They bought a batch from a vendor and the rubber was to hard.
