Polaris Rush 800 vs Etec 800

So I was thinking the past couple days and I think I want to upgrade to an 800 for the next season. I will probally order one in the spring or else find a left over in later fall.. I currently am on a 600 Rush. I like the sled but burnt the motor down and have had a few other issues that I am not to happy with.. But other than that I love the sled. I am also in the market for an 800 etec.. I have done some reading on them so have some insight on them. What would you guys reommend? If i went with a Rush it would be a pro R unless they come out with something new this spring. If I got an Etec would it be worth spending the money for an xrs package? Do you guys thing there will be any big changes to these motors for the 2012 season?

Doo always fine tuning & improving etec. For me I have to have the best shock package on any sled. I like the Doo XP X package a lot but never rode XRS in XP however I did ride the XRS doo in old rev package & hated it. It was designed for racing not trail riding & was brick hard for me. On the other hand the guy who bought the XPX 800 really missed the 600 old rev XRS so all that being said I think it is what you are used too. I like shock clickers compression & rebound but designed for trail not racetrack.

I have a little over 300 (off-trail) miles on my 2011 Summit X with an 800 E-TEC, and I have to say this motor is absolutely awesome. It runs super smooth, throttle response is outstanding, super-light throttle pull. The fuel mileage was nothing special in the beginning, but it appears to be getting better now as the break-in period is ending.

I also have a 2010 Summit with the 800-R (carbureted) engine, and I am very happy with it, but I gotta say the E-TEC definitely raises the bar. I think Doo has a winner here.

Doos totally lack in the clutching department. Apparently pro r owners have been very happy with the machine. Read on in hardcore sledders about the doo and poo lots of good info about both machines from owners of the sleds. Lillywanker what about a nice 4stroker Yamaha? I think you'd look pretty sexy on a apex

I know willis has a phazer an said set up correctly he will stay with any sled on the market while riding the freto loup hmm makes me wounder.. maybe a phazer? I ride with guys that are all computer riders anyway who says I need a fast sled..

I rode with Willis once. That sled is the fastest 40 hp sled i ever seent. I doesnt turn to well, so you gotta watch out in the corners with all that power, or else you will end up killt.

I agree Arctic rat ZR 1ton is where its at for the twistys

Lillywannabeer, I rode the 800 demo last week. It accels pretty fast. Of course if Poo Poo dont get there act together real quick my next sled will be a e-tec also.

Polaris has got the 800 Rush done right for once. It runs strong no problems with them.

Waiting for more snow to run my 800 Rush.

I own a 2011 mxzx 800 etec. It is indeed a fine engine - very powerful and smooth. However, I wouldn't claim that the Ski-Doos are bullet proof as they have their share of issues. I don't think anyone can make a valid claim that the Polaris or Ski-Doo would be more reliable at this point. The XRS package has been softened a bit is what I've been told. The reason I would buy the XRS is not for the improved shocks (piggy backs on the front) but rather the increased bracing on the frame. The Rev XP platform has been known to have a few weak spots and can be tweaked...I know this first hand. I recommend the Ski Doo but I only have 300 miles on it so far. If you go that route, I would recommend adding after market lower and upper A arm bracing. You may not ever need it but is cheap insurance on a $12K snowmobile.

From what I've heard, they have not done much to improve the Ski Doo 800 crank bearing issue. They still use the same type of bearing (isoflex). I think they have made some progress on the top end burn downs though. A thicker piston for one this year and better cooling I think.

What exactly was the problem with the 800 xp crank bearings. My brother has an 09 xp and I'm curious to hear what is happening with them?

I know one common problem is heat building up in the primary and causing the PTO side bearing to fail. I just did a little research and found Ski Doo did change the bearing on 09 and newer 800's to C5 bearings which have tighter tolerances than the C4 bearings they use to use.

why would you consider and 800, you cant even control your 600 when you ride. i think you will get kilt with that horsepower, you are a very small young man. just hang in there grasshopper you will get older and bigger someday where you can upgrade to a bigger sled.

I just want people to know that I mean business. Do I think the 800 is a bit much power? Yes I do.. For a guy my size that is a big machine between these little legs. I am kind of a river rat though and like that extra power.. Trails I dont know how it will fair up. I ride with a couple guys that have 500ss skidoo's in the xp chassis so they arent overly quick and one wrong move an BAM!!!! tweaked chassis. I am an aggresive rider and I dont know if that xp chassis is ment for me. I just wanted some imput on the 800 sleds that skidoo and polaris have out there rite now.. Not to jump your case tedgetsnohead but I am a little disapointed on your posts.. This is a family forum we are all a family here and myself and I know others like dwayne dont like alot of your imput. I understand you ride the northern part of Wi and are a big shot an all.. but can we keep the computer riding to a minimum? thank you..

You better not have monster stickers on that sled! I will pick on you like theodore gets picked on. You dont want that now do you??

What is the big fricken deal!!!! I have only 4 Monster stickers. Each one give me a little extra HP I need whatever I can get with my little 500ss.. I think im going to switch out my almond spring with the blue/green one then talk to mavis and hope i can get that gear so i can drop a tooth then talk to ishi and see if he has those hot seat pipes with the welded on stingers for a little extra hp. I know willis has some boondock nytrous and Beaner has a black magic secondary for me too.. Im hoping ted still has those spark plugs he told me about that give it an extra 5hp.. He has 2 of them for 23 bucks a peice.. think its worth it?
