Portillo's is a good choice. They have 2 locations within 3 miles of my office. Rolling Meadows and Schaumburg on Golf Rd.(includes Barnellis Pasta Bowl)

If you are in the Joliet/Shorewood area you need to go to Babe's on Jefferson st by Menard's or my favorite place to go for a dog is Joe's Hot Dog on Rt.30 and Black Rd(6 corners) Real small place open until 3 or 4am and the dogs are awesome.

Ha! Joes hot dogs are the best! I grew up a few blocks from there. Great memories!

Polarisrider is by my house in Shorewood and that Portillos is like that from open to 10 at night.

That place is insane. I thought they had a big promotion going on or something, the guy taking orders outside said like this all the time. Wow! I need to open one of these stores in GRAND Rapids, they make "Yesterdog " look like a cheap try at comparision.

I am here for next three weeks. Portillos I suspect was a mom and pop that made it bigger. A line was about 100 yards long out the door on a thursday. I suspect they got it going on. Drive thru was longer line.
PR ,Thirty years ago it would of taken every resident in Shorewood to form that long of line.Your only three towns to the west of us now.

Me thinks we should turn Fry Daddy's in Lowell into a satellite Portillos. :D

Having lived near Crystal Lake for a few years and growing up near South Bend, IN I'm amazed that the Chicago influence hasn't crept up the shoreline.

If you ever wanna road trip I'm in. For now I pay the super high price and ship beef n rolls in once a year. There's also a place in Grand Haven that is 20% of what the dog and beef places are like in Chicago. Yesterdogs or Corner Bar just seem like dog food when compared to the Chicago joints!

Corner bar uses cheap boiled in water dogs I don’t care for them. G&L dogs I do go to only because of my punch card I have there. We had Wolf Doggies for a while, nuff said. Fry Daddys, the rent there is dirt cheap, The parking lot could be made into a Drive thru. Or have dogs delivered out to waiting customers, I never go there now. Balls has the market on chilli dogs in my town.

For those that like portillos and don't live anywhere near one, portillos will ship their products anywhere. I shipped my brother a hotdog package once a few years ago. It came with the dogs, buns, all the toppings and instructions on how to make them like they do. I think it is all on their website.

That will take care of my Christmas list!

Spicy Red Neck

We vacationed in Manhattan last summer. Went to a little hole-in-the-wall diner called 'Eat Me'. No dining in you just order and wait for your food then take it with you. Everything on the menu is based on a hot dog, about 40 or so items to choose from. I had the 'Spicy Red Neck', and I've since made them at home a couple of times. Take your favorite hot dog, wrap it in bacon. Deep fry it until the bacon is cooked. Put it on a bun, add cole slaw, spicy brown mustard and jalapenos. I'm not a big jalapeno fan so I used banana peppers instead. These things are bomb-diggity.

One of the few things I actually kind of miss from the Chicago days, has to be one of the best chain fast-food restaurant in the country.
