Heading back to Chicago in 3 weeks. Going directly to Cardinal Liquors and Portillos. Oh, and then to work. lol. Dollar dogs at Babes too!

You sound like a very good friend of mine who lives in kalamazoo "he is a xfib" first thing he does when he comes back home is stop for a dog or a beef. He even got his wife "MI. native" hooked on portillos.

The place is a gold mine. Dogs are cheap, it is all in the toppings and presentation. Also We have never heard of Liquor on sale either. What a concept, free enterprise at its finest. Michigan has set liquor prices. much higher than IL. Now your sales taxes, property taxes, etc. are higher than ours. I will give you all the Burger kings in Michigan for one Portillos.

If you ever drive your boat across the big pond stop in Wilmette harbor and I'll bring you some Portillios or some good local pizza.

Jimmy's at Grand and Pulaski in Chicago. The only issue is it is in the ghetto to say the least. I work in the area so I have a reason to go there. If you go make sure it is during the day.

I will take you up on it. Did the math, Marina gas is at. $4.65 a gallon and I would burn 200 gallons to get there. Oh, and 200 to get back. So it would be about. $1860 for fuel and. $90 a niight to slip the boat and cab fare and pizza, dogs, etc. .......................well I have done it three times in the past. Maybe next year. Right know it is a floating condo. Sitting here watching the ducks swim by is fun too.

Oh I can relate to that … like corralling a couple of friends and flying from Phoenix Deer Valley Airport (DVT) to San Diego Lindberg Field (SAN) for lunch at the ol' Boom Trenchard's Flarepath Restaurant, then on the east side of the approach end of Runway 27, wayback in the 1970's (263nm each way). You you could sit at the bar and listen to the Lindberg control tower radio communications through headphones sited every 3-4 feet along the bar --- with a panoramic view of the field and Pt. Loma in the background with the sun setting over it.

Or from Phoenix Deer Valley Airport to the Harris Ranch Airport, Coalinga, CA (3O8) (430nm each way) for dinner at the Harris Ranch Restaurant. Dry aged prime beef, absolutely the best steaks on the planet! :)

It made for some fairly 'spensive hamburgers/steaks, although in each case, with the flight back home, it was strictly booze free dining<sigh>! But the experience: Priceless!
</sigh>

Mr Nash, You need to write a book so everyone can enjoy all of the cool stuff you've done! Seriously!

PR1 - you'll miss the eats but am sure you'll be glad to be done with your job and this big, sprawling city!

Yes, I put the smack down at Portillos. I did drive thru in Shorewood. Said to the gal who was outside taking. "Pre" orders, "what a gold mine" and she smiled and said, "yes it is". Got to love the place. They make their product to look like the picture. Mcdonalds accross the street was empty. Here's your sign. Duh. Folks this is how it is done.
