PreMix Gas to "Wake Up" Sled

How many run a little PreMix gas(say >1/4 tank provided it was stored empty), at first start up, after summer storage?

the fogging oil I spray in during spring storage makes a big enough cloud during start up

I run pre mix first tank of every 2 stroke I have, every year. One year had an oil pump give out so I learned my leason the hard way. If I would have had done the pre-mix thing then wouldn't have cost me $600 for a $100 part. That way I can check my oil useage and worse comes to worse have to change out a set of fouled plugs.

Now that makes sense dab102999. I just thought it would be more polite to the engine. In your case it would have been way more polite to the wallet, too! Running PreMix, first tank, from here on out. Thanks.

Yea as soon as you said the 5th I saw where this thread was going...but in my case I am so pumped about riding that first ride that sometime I don't think about looking at things like the oil level. But once that first ride is out then I come to my sensus and check the oil everytime I stop for gas. I used to use a marker and put a lime but found out that can get confusing after a couple of year. now I just use a piece of electrical tape to mark the oil line and make sure it uses some...but seriously 42 law in murphys law says that everything that can go wrong will go wrong on my first ride of the year!!

dab, your idea is great. I do the same thing for the same reasons. I had a oil pump go bad on a 03 Polaris 700RMK on 1st ride of season. I also add extra oil to tank when riding in Mountains with carbed sleds. I don't totally trust my jetting for altitude. No meltdowns this way. Plugs are cheap compared to Pistons.

Problem is the oil pump will break while your riding. By the time you realize the sled isn't getting any oil it will be too late anyways. So marking your oil tank won't help at all. You meen to tell me that if you check your oil level at a gas stop and the sled hasn't used any oil that the sled will still be running....not. I understand the theory but it doesn't work that way. Sorry

I don't know that your extra oil to prevent lean burn down makes sense.the oil wont burn off like the gas so if you think about it the more oil the more lean you will be running.maybe I am crazy but that is how it plays in my head

I don't really plan on pre mix. If I have left over fuel from the boat, thats mixed, I throw that in there than fill the rest up with premium. What the ratio is, who knows, but I would believe it would be better to pre mix a bit on your first tank of the year. I remember a dealer mentioning it to me, not just for new sleds.

When you go to become a Ski doo certified mechanic they tell you to add oil in first gas tank every year!<font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font>

I'm with dab102999. I always thought the best chance of an oil pump not working was after it sat along time, like diapham rot, gasket failure, mice chewing the line, or if you worked on it, chance of kinking the line or air bubble if the sled was on its side for awhile.

What is the cost of that little extra oil - cheap insurance.

And I'm still going to use moth balls.

Do ya harvest 'em yourself?
That must take a good microscope and a tiny pair o' tweezers!
