That's the difference between "moth balls" (two words) and "mothballs" (one word)!

Yeah, I'm back!

You should always consider the fact that the amount of oil you put in your gas displaces that same amount of fuel as it passes thru the jets or injectors.

If you are close on your jetting you may run into a lean condition melting pistons. All the oil in the world won't help a lean burn down. Overall, mixing oil in the gas tank is probably a bad idea.

Are people really having that much trouble with oil injection systems?

Been riding since way before oil injection came about and have owned an independent repair shop for about twenty years and have yet to see a oil injection system failure (except for failure to add oil to the tank when it's empty).

mikedrh, I think I understand what your saying, but explain this: Several years ago I accidently put 7 gallons of Diesel in an 11 gallon tank on an 800 triple.

Station clerk said I was the second sled that morning to do this, just go dump it in the woods.
WHAT!!! I chose to run the sled hard. As long as the RPMs were above 7000, it ran, below I had to pull the choke. I put another 8500 miles on that engine (16,500 total)

By the way, I thought diesel always got better mileage LOL I got less than 6 with the 7/4 mix but the looks from the smoke trail, priceless. I felt sorry for my buddy trying to keep up.

I usually hook a piece of wire to the oil pump lever and after its running pull on the wire. So the oil pump is pumping alot of oil to the engine. It will smoke alot but at least I know that the engine is getting plenty of oil. After it runs awhile I shut it off remove the wire and run it a bit more and then change the plugs. Never had a problem with a motor

Why not add extra oil in the gas tank to your four stroke also?

It has all the same parts, and then some, that the two stroke engine has.

Makes even more sense to me.

Because my 4 stroke doesn't require a mixed gas to run. Just 4 quarts of 0-30 and a new filter. I replace the oil and filter before every season and then every 3000 miles but I usually don't get to put that many miles on since snow in Iowa doesn't last long.
