Price gouging? Is this normal practice?

It could be worse, you could be like me where you can't make a trip without wrecking something. So far this year, seat, taillight, 2 ice scratchers, bent footwell, broken bumper one trip, next trip smashed the bumper into pieces, cracked hood, bent lower pan brace, cracked carbide, busted handguard, a piston, a cylinder, driveshaft bearing, and still amazed I'm still riding :)

All from trail riding right? ;)

I bet when the snowdance is in the market for a new sled he WONT be going there or telling his buddys to go there...for even a windshield dart.

Trees4Traction hit it on the head. Based on this and other people experiences i've heard I wouldn't ever consider buying a snowmobile there. Sure, if push came to shove and I needed a part while in the area, yes i'd go there if I had to and there weren't other options.

Come here, I have it in stock:)

Kip, if time and distance hadn't been a factor I would have gone to you in a heartbeat. In fact based on word of mouth and reputation I would probably buy a snowmobile from you sight unseen. I have already considered if and when I'm in the market I will definitely be giving your place a call even though I live 340 miles away.

I know it's against the rules to publicly post the establishment but I'm curious to know.
Feel free to PM with the info if at all possible.

How many poo dealerships are up there? Say from Pats, north? I only know of one other myself. And IIRC, that dealership was a "good guy" on here a few years back.

I've been in a lot of dealerships where they don't even let you sit on the sled, let alone take a wrench to it.

They started by pulling the brake lever off of a pro. Totally different part. Parking brake is different. Then told me this was the same. After some convincing they removed the appropriate one.

sounds smart to me. I've bought two new sleds from Chad, his brother, and couldn't be happier. Even when they are busy up to their eyeballs they still make you feel great. I've had nothing but great service, sales, and no BS. I can honestly say I'd recommend Chad or Kip anytime. I would never have bought a second sled from the same dealer if I didn't like the first go around.

wait a minute, back in 1995 or so I did but a Yamaha vmax 600 from their old Baraga store location. I think Kip may have had a hand in it but I'm not sure. That day rocked. I was pumped.

Team elk, you could have almost bought a whole new bag for the cost of that rivet!
As for the lever, I wouldn't too mad as didn't have to pull the part off a new sled, how many dealers would do that?
It happens, but more often than not the businesses UP there go above and beyond. I will mention one time though on a saddlebag trip, I broke a rivet that held on my saddlebags and stopped at a small snomo repair place, (no where near the area mentioned above:eek:) and asked if they could help me out. They said they were too busy to waste their time with my minor repair. But after some coaxing offered me a rivet and the use of their rivet gun to do it myself. Two minutes later when I returned the rivet gun and thanked him, I had planned on slipping him a $20, he charged me $45. If I had just stopped at the hardware store that I passed to get to his shop and bought a rivet gun and rivets...... I guess everyone needs to pay the their electric bill.;)

"your lack of planning is not someone else emergency"

......I carry xtra parts...springs,throttle lever brake lever.......entrie trip wrecked over broke throttle once.....

I didn't even know these parts break..no s***...but common..he took it off another sled and got u going..and if he sold it he wulda had to do it again..100 to 125 quick repair seems fair to me..

maybe I like in a small bubble or just have good ethics burned into my brain.
When I worked at the dealer we would take anything off a new machine as long as it wasn't sold or pending sale. heck we took tires off brand new RZRs and ATVs if some one wanted a set that day. The owner would take parts off his demo sleds for someone if need be.
I even loaned a guy my rear shock for a weekend because he was in desirate need and I wasn't going to be riding that weekend. I guess there are more dealers other there that wont help a customer out for a part. Snowdance did the "repair" himself...he just needed a part. Heck if he needed spark plugs they didn't have on the shelf but would let him have a set off a new sled on the floor would it be right to charge him $100 for the plugs???

My nephew was up last summer to Twin Lakes and got a flat on his CamAm 650. Went to the nearest CanAm dealer and they no could fix the tire, said it was shot, did not have any replacement but they did happen to have a set of custom wheels and tires they tried to sell him for over $2,000. Went to another place nearby and they fixed the tire and commented that whoever told you the tire could not be fixed was full of BS. Never had a problem with the repair.

:) LOL, yep.
I think he charged me the minimum half hour labor charge or somesuch. In hindsight, if I had stopped at the local hardware store, picked up one of those cheap rivet gun kits that come with an assortment of rivets, used it, and given it away to the first person I saw when I was done, I would have been $20 ahead. But then I wouldn't have had an interesting tale to tell afterwards.;)
