Re...the late start/bonus deer season in Wisconsin

Yeah, this statewide anterless only firearms season in WI from 12/12-12/15 should have been cancelled, especially in the Northern of the state. The deer herd is low enough. Let the snowmobilers ride and help the economy!

Eagle River & east not so bad on motorized sports but extreme NW Vilas hates leaf blowers & chain saws never mind anything with wheels & skis.lol When those people get worked up they will spend mucho dollars to stop ATVs too late to stop snowmobiles that ship has sailed. DNR luvs then as they donate huge tracts of forests land to DNR with use agreements. NW Vilas is a joke so I stay away from there & granola eaters is the nicest thing I can say about them.

agree 100% on the report age , i pulled that one quick , there are several others basically the same .Guess my point was I get tired of the Wolf always being blamed by misinformed people . Yes it does its fair share of killing and there are far to many now & need to be managed . But by far they are not the #1 killer of deer. Now off my soap box and back to the thread at hand ..

Yep....our wonderful DNR....Check out a few of their blunders:

The walleye fishery up north was depleted due to tribal spearing, and over harvest by anglers...their solution...stock more Muskies!!! Yeah great....we have a world class musky fishery...but the walleyes, perch, and crappie fishing now sucks!!

Then...porkies were eating the treated logs on rich people's summer homes...their solution....let's stock fishers to kill the porkies...and yes fishers will kill and eat porkies....but they prefer rough grouse!!! (face palm)

Another great idea....let's reintroduce the grey wolf...to help control the whitetail population..........except now we have too many wolves....and have to shoot some....which has pissed off the tribes...because to them wolves are a sacred animal...in response they shot an elk, and promise to spear more fish next spring.....nice job DNR.....(face palm)

and...let's have all kinds of bonus hunts....because too many people keep hitting deer with their cars....that should really help control the white tail herd (wait I thought that's what the wolves and the regular deer gun season was for)....now the deer herd is in bad shape north of hwy 64 (another face palm)...I could go on and on...but I won't....by this time next week....I will be riding....and all of this will be a mute point....because I just won't care....but I think the wait for trails to open has made me some what crabby, and in need of a venting session....and IMO....there is nothing better to vent about then the wisconsin dnr!!!! There I feel much better......lol

Some incorrect info being spread here. I am not here to defend the WI DNR and for the most part do not like how
they manage our resources. With that said let me add some info regarding this thread.

The WI DNR added the anterless hunt due to pressure by hunters in thier Spring meetings. This hunt only pertains to areas that have anterless permits issued. There were very few issues here in Iron County and therefore the county opened the trails yesterday (according to the Mercer Chamber). The DNR wanted to cancel this hunt when they saw registration numbers this fall. They CANNOT cancel the hunt due to changes in the laws from our WI legistrators. It is ironic that several WI legistrators are calling for the hunt to be cancelled when they actually have prevented it. They choose to strip the DNR of some of it's powers 2 years ago. This is government showing why it sucks.
As for next season, they are proposing that the muzzleloader season gets extanded from 10 to 14 days. If this happens, it will again delay snowmobile season opener. I suspect that a anterless 4 day hunt will be off the books in Northern WI next year due to lack of deer.
It is correct that years ago we did not have these late deer seasons. We sure do not need them now. Remember when the Hurley Red Light Rally was held around the 10th of Dec. every year. This is also a very touchy subject here in the north. Some of the land used for snowmobile trails is owned by people just for hunting. They allow thier land to be used for the trail system but will close it if the think hunting is in jeporidy. Be carefull which boat you rock.

I could bring my trailer over, you throw your new sled on there and we head north a ways? Then we both MIGHT feel better!!! LOL!!
