Hey gang,

Moving back to the Northland after a 15 year stint in Atlanta. Will be getting back into snowmobiling. Any suggestions for a used sled? I am 40 with 2 younger kids. Looking for a worry free, starts on the 1st pull, trail cruiser. I have a Honda CRF230f dirtbike and am looking for a similar class of snowmobile.

Price range $3,000-5,000. Make not important. Have owned a Polaris 600 in the past. Thanks for the recommendations.

as a cat guy looking for worry free trail sled to ride on 3k to 5k I would prob get a 3/4 ton yammi and just turn the key and go.
if u want something to drive and not ride. 3700 will get u in to a nice crossfire 7 IMHO the 700 lay down cat is one of the best they built the xf is a good all around sled efi 136 track ez to work on more HP than other brand 800 of the same era.down side no rev on x fire. if u want rev worth buying u need to buy a 09 and up the 07/08 diamond drive is not worth getting in to.
looking at a poo I think u need to get past a 2010 to get any efi worth buying but lots of good carb options stay way clear of the 900s

For the bottom end of your price range you could get a Polaris Edge chassis 5,6, or 700 probably the most reliable 2-stroke motor on the most reliable chassis ever made. For the top of your price range I'd start looking for a 4-stroke yami if you want a turn key reliable sled.

Cat makes some nice 4 stroke sleds in the 3-4k range...usually well taken care of and easy on fuel. They will likely come with reverse, and unless you still own stick shift carbed cars and trucks....don't do the "no reverse" machine...your back will thank you.

These are start every time machines and lots of torque. Rocket ships they are not but that doesn't sound like what you are looking for here. Reliable and pretty easy to find. 660 motors are bullet proof...you won't smell like an oil can when you get to where you are going and your wife will thank you for that.

Unless you like starting big chainsaws turn the key and go is the ONLY way to go here. Younger pups can pull all day on those carbed sleds because they don't know any better....but if you want reliable and fun to ride and not wrench on...look for either a turbo or non-turbo 660 machine.

Then if you want a rocket ship...get a nice z1 turbo ext. Go anywhere and wring it out on the lake for the need for speed. You will spend some bread on the later. I have seen new for about $8800 advertised.

the 660 turbo is ok but dont do the 660 non turbo my wife had one it did not have the power a fan 570 has but still has the top heavy weight penalty.
granted my wife's 660 was totaled with less than 200mi but that is because her prev sled was a zrt 600 and that had the power to spin the track and slide around a corner and the 660 deff did not.
but the 660's will still be running when your kids have kids

I would have to agree with Ezra . I have owned a700xfire since new. It's been a great sled. The Indy 500 has been Evan better ,no you won't win to many drag races, nor will it go through the steep and deep, but that sled will go up and down the trail for 10,000 smiles. You can find some great starter sleds ,for half the price of the big HP,that won't last.

X2 the 136 hooks up better someone said Rage 06 125 ish HP had RA mono good sled. Might fine 06 Apex 150 ish hp top of your range that is injected but also rider forward position. All will have miles but no problem with Yam 4s engines could go 50,000 miles who knows?
