Our club has had several races, snowcross and ovals on ice. Insurance is very expensive. Probly over 2 Grand now. I remember it being around 1800 at the time, and we haven't had one in 5 years. We would recoupe that through racers fees. Insurance was the easy part, and I don't think it was for the racers, was for fans. Racers needed to sign a waiver. It was setting up the course, which means stakes, snow fence and tons of straw bales, stands, tent for food and refreshments, heat for tent, computer to run race programs, announcer, people to hold flags and organize racers, port-a-potties, garbage cans, etc, etc, etc! It was an incredible amount of work, and we never made much money off of it. Thought was to have an event for local fans but not enough people showed up. Tried to make money off of entry fees and food sales, and the biggest kick in the face was the racers. They have all that money tied up in sleds, trailers, trucks and gas to get to the track, and they also brought there own food and refreshments and never spent any money in the tent. It was either charge more at the pit entrance or quit, and the fact all the work was in the dead of winter and cut into our riding time, we decided to quit.
