Stayed south of Munising near The Buckhorn, ended up riding all the south trails to Manistique and Nahma so didn't ride anywhere east of Shingleton. Friday and Saturday did get warm but still a lot of people out.I do use ride command, I really like it but much prefer boots on the ground reports my preferred, I really get a kick out of some of the comments that are made when trails are bad, really good laugh come times lol! I also have the G8 guage with trails on it as well but I will admit I'm not technologically advanced and dont want to be flipping through screens and really like watching machine info screen which is really the ONLY reason why I bought it. heckler56 has also been very helpful and has sent me some very detailed maps of eastern areas with his own notes on them and I ended up enlarging and laminating them LOL!! came in very useful last year as hadn't ridden area since 2011. I thought you had said you would be in eastern area too any reports would be greatly appreciated, I leave on Sunday leave Thursday
Brian,
I looked for reports on FB for you and basically did not find anything more than a sentence or two. This week there has been a 1,000 mile charity ride going on in the Bear Trap to Soo, Naubenway, Curtis, Newberry, etc. Folks have reported good conditions overall. By end of day they can be beat up. Huge base and snow on the way tomorrow and intermittent thereafter. The good thing is it has maintained temps close to low 30’s daytime (worst case) and freezing at night and some days. TASA sounds like a couple groomers down but will be back in service by weekend.
The Mac bridge closed for a while yesterday and has been closed most of today. When I set out tomorrow it looks to be all snow in the UP. Don’t worry, ample snow in your proposed riding area…
Thank you both for the intel! much appreciated, planning on staying through Thursday I think I have ridden the 43 trail once before but will try to check it out! is snow good all the way down to Big Spring? My goal is Big Spring, Teh Falls loop and the Soo, seeing mixed precip this morning up there, but another 3 inches today and 3 to 6 tonight and tomorrow. Interesting on Paradise, when I was up there last year I thought we went through there on a tuesday but it was during the polar vortex so grooms set up like pavement. Last year also on way back from Teh falls it was getting late so we took that road shortcut by Pine Stump and were able to gas up, I think we took 498 up to road then ran up to road to pick up 9, is there available gas taking trail 9 back up to 8? i think and dont quote me that the short cut took about 30 miles off of staying on 9. THANK YOU GUYS AGAIN!!Out of Gm you can take trail 8 all the way to the Soo, there are other ways you can go but that is a really good way to go. Paradise does not groom on Mondays, that is their maintenance day, so I wouldn't go that way on a Tuesday. Most of the Eastern clubs post trail conditions on trailreport.net All the clubs are still saying conditions are really good to great and improving with the recent snows. I wouldn't worry one bit for your ride next week, you can go anywhere you want...hint take 43 south to Curtis and ride those southern trails, you won't be dissapointed.
was thinking the same of the shortcut with warm up, snowed every day we were there last year so snow on road was not issue, and to be honest road running not one of my preferred ways of riding, was thinking of avoiding like plague this year because of warm up, was running late last year so hopped on it, Thanks for input! Very much appreciated!!The county road cuts about 20 miles off from taking the trail up to pine Stump but not sure if it's doable with the recent warmup, I would think the county road is pretty bare. As far as gas goes, there's gas at Windy Corners, 498 takes you right to the gas station, they close at 7 though so beware. Also, gas at Pine stump, there open much later but I'm pretty sure the pumps are on 24/7 using a card. So, from GM to trail 43 is very easy, its about 18 miles the shortest way which would be trail 8 North/West, at the intersection of 8 & 89 T/L stay on 8, at the next intersection of 8 & 888 take 888 which is straight thru to the next intersection 888 & 88 hang a right on 88 and the next intersection is 43 T/L. That will dump you right into Seney and BP is to your right. From there keep heading South on 43 to Curtis.
