Risaw vs. Cobra?

I'm looking to upgrade to 144". I am wondering what to buy, 1.25" ripsaw or the cobra? Any advice is much appreicated.

Where do you ride? Do you find some loose snow at all? The cobra does much better in loose snow than the ripsaw. The ripsaw does better (not MUCH better) than the cobra on trail. If you're going 144, i'd go with the cobra.

I will assume if you are going to a 144 you spend a bit of time off the interstate.so I would not get a rip or cobra I would do a 1.75 challenger.with a 1.75 challenger you can still get away with some trail or if more trail than off poss a 1.5 challenger I had one a few yrs back but quickly dumped the 1.5 for a 2.the rip saw is a p.o.s. on anything but groomed trail

We do our fair share of highway miles but I like to play around alot between stops. This would be going on a Yamaha Apex RTX. If that makes any difference....

Apex RTX to 144 Cobra better in fluff for that heavy beast off trail. My Attak 136 ripsaw sucks off trail but cuts good trenches lol.

Go with the Cobra. I do not have any first hand experience with the Cobra and how it holds up, but the Ripsaws can have durability issues...ripped lugs, tears, etc.

I would strongly suggest the Cobra. I put a 136 by 1.3/8 on my 700 last year and loved it. I was able to go places guys with the ripsaw.

If going to a 144", I would think a Cobra would better suit your needs than a ripsaw since a 144" is best suited for off trail or and least a good amount of off trail riding. I love my 136" ripsaw (actually an ice ripper). Very durable, awesome on the trail and even OK off trail. If you like to venture off trail a lot, the Cobra is your choice. If you prefer the trails mostly, then the Ripsaw would be the best in my opinion.

The Cobra does stretch a bit more, but it really does hook up better. Just check your tension more often. They do not like the guys that spin across junk though. This is one after about 6,000 miles of abuse. The Ripsaw tracks held up a little better with the same type of riding.

I'd go with the Cobra. I don't have a ton of miles on mine (1200 ish) but so far so good. Seems to be a very good crosscountry-type track.

what kind of off trail are you guys pulling off with a 1 3/8 ?I have done some with a 1.5 all is great until you have to slow down to go in to the woods at a dead end then the issues start for me .I still think my 136x2 just barely makes the cut for a winter like last it was ok but for a real winter I don't think well I know it would get me every place I wanted to go.if you guys are doing pow hill climbs in the trees with a 1 3/8 you are rock stars

What about using anti ratchet drivers, so you can loosen it up a bit? I know Yamaha runs a really tight track. Man, I do not want to be installing hyfax 10 times a winter. I have had really good luck with the ripsaws but, the cobra seems more appealing? I had a Polaris 800 with a 1-1/4" ripsaw 136" and it like to dig trenches. But I guess that is part of going into the back country in the U.P. Go get stuck and dig yourself out. LOL

You will do better with any 144 over 136. Ripsaw is / was OEM choice. I favor Yamaha 4s for a trail sled over all others but off trail is better served with a light 2s. No Apex Mountain any more ...............plenty of ponies but just too darn heavy & Yam knew it. I took out Nytro XT next to my Attak & went off trail. My Attak immedialtly trenched while XT floated & was good to go. Apex RTX is all about stiff supension for banging trails with tons of 150 4s power not off trail riding. You really have the wrong sled for that & new 2011 Apex 144 is all about rough trail comfort not loose powder so Yam knows that too. Probably better if you stay with 144 ripsaw teamblue makes a very good point about hyfax wear.

i dunno EZRA....i go inta da woods regular like in the deep and hill climb with a 1.375 x 128 x 13.5 RIPSAW with NO STUDS just fine....never have a problem and if i do......it was because i wasnt finesin' the flipper enough....easy....easy....it'll go ever wear u want it too....i'll make a film o some hill climbin in da UP in JD territory so's ya can see it in action....dee's is on da backside o MOUNT ARVIN area....twas deep
