On my bucket list to get in that deep stuff out west!!! One of these yrs I might have the funds to make it happen?

If you can save about $20 a week for the next 45 weeks You can do it up! You got the sled and you can ride out with me! Transportation, meals and lodging will be covered with that for a week! So beginning of next March you ride! start saving!

not that much $$$ we usually do 10 day shots and my last 10 day run cost me under 800 bucks.
we usually stay in a toy hauler I pre cook most meals. pre buy all snacks watter pop etc for whole crew and we split cost.we eat way better than most bar restaurants that seam to be the norm on guy trips.
we usually get a room every 3 days to shower.
most rooms are not as nice as camper.and deff don't have as nice a tv and sound.
best part of the toy hauler is not being locked in to 1 room booked weeks in advance. better snow a few hrs away u can be on it and stay on it or chase it back home.
even paying for lodging u can do 10 days for just over 1400 as long as u dont try to do it in a place like tog MN WI guys home away from home. nice place with all amenities but deff not the best ridding in the west and most deff not the best deal. great marketing team though

Like the title says, "Rock Stars" we bring our own cook, film guy and stay in nice places. I gain weight on these trips. We eat steaks, deep fryed turkey, full blown breakfasts, homemade chilli and soups, relish trays, salads and pine apple upside down cake for the guys who want that. Showers every night. Big screen tv's at IP to watch videos from the day, internet, and best of all comfy beds and heat. We are talking vacation here! I am talking everything included but sled gas,oil and beer. Oh and $25 trail permit. So a grand will work at IP, Cooke City, Lava Mtn., or Snowies. For 5 days in comfort. If you shop Togwotee you can do it for that there also.
Add another grand to rent a sled for the 5 days. ($1200 for an RMK Pro).

I have done the rock star thing on a private jet sled delivered before u get there in a unreal home in the hills. but this guy has to live on the coat tails of his buds who won the natural lottery for that.
btw I the reason I cook is because I can. latchkey kids had to learn to cook early. our last trip included Creole shrimp and sausage gumbo with BBQ soft shell crab.Turkey tetrazzini with bread crumb topping. Sarma with sausage. dry rub ribbs with home made garlic and onion BBQ sauce.home made muff pot size pasties. I think in the 16 yrs I have been married my wife has cooked less than 100 times.
I dont like the hotel scene at all! the lodge thing is ok but still not my thing my wife loves the lodge thing .if anything I want a nice house or nice private cabin. if not I want to be in a lot at 8k or better preff having to use chains to get in shooting off fire works or hand guns and parting with the locals about 200 yards from the reason I drove 22hrs
BTW RMK 600 joe went up to where u guys turned around and road north this weekend said it was good un real spring this yr. the used sleds should bring in premium $$ this fall

Glad to hear Joe was able to put a few more miles on the Assualt. When we went up nearly a month ago now, it seemed like that was the end of the riding season. Amazing! This whole west thing sounds like something I'm gonna have to make happen one of these yrs.

Acutally cheaper than I expected. Me and a buddy have been doing the annual black hills thing. Concerned about running short on talent in the mountains.

The funny part is, since we don't want our wives getting upset by us having such a great time that we tell them that we eat gas station hot dogs and sub sandwiches with blue/green meat and other junk. Whether riding the upper lower or lower upper or out west with fellow JDeer's or others we never ate gas station food.

I went on a "rock star" trip to cooke city this year. Was a good deal IMO. Bearclaw Bobs wife is an awesome cook.
Went on a second trip to cooke city with 2 buds. I didn't keep track of how much I spent on that trip, but I would guess it was a little more than the rock star trip. Bed-n-buns for good suppers, and bearclaw bob is good at welding.....and more than once...haha
Went on another trip to west Yellowstone/island park with wife, little son, and another couple with their 12 girl and young son. Stayed in a condo we cooked almost all meals. Along with my wife "shopping" every day, this trip was far and away the most expensive of the year. If momma ain't happy, nobody's happy I've learned.....

Now that is funny. Gotta tell a few white lies here and there to make sure they don't get too upset. LOL!

Man, if you guys are going for 5 to 10 days on $800-$1,200 I gotta get on that program. I go through $700 on a solo trip 4 night trip to the UP, and if I bring my son I'll budget a grand. I always figured I'd be more than that out west. Problem is I don't have riding buds from home that will make the trip, and the 128 won't make it out there, so the rental cost will shoot the budget for sure.

5 days of riding and 5-6 days of lodging. Gary I sold my wifes 500SS to a guy in Rockford, your on the way out. We split expenses between 15-30 guys going out. that's how we can do it up right. Some fly (that's extra) some drive. Smurfrider and I sometimes take his wifes VW wagon that gets 43 MG and fits 4 guys. You would be fine for a great deal of IP on a 128. I would not do a Cooke trip with it.
I always say, "Make new riding Bud's".

Might have to twist your arm and have you stop in Rockford on your way out next year. This is off topic slightly, but how would a 136 do out there? Easier to get into that and use it all around here than jumping to a 144, and I know I'd never go longer than that right now based on where I ride.

No doubt the longer the better, but it also has to do with driver ability. You will not be able go the highest when breaking trail, but if you are a good enough rider, you should be able to follow other tracks when boondocking getting over certain terrain. When we first started going out we rode 121's and did fine. The last few times had a 136 and was better, but not the best. Used to ride with Carter in Tog with short tracks and everyone else had long tracks, heard a few groans in the morning before we left, but after riding awhile think we earned a little respect cause we kept up. Used to outride guys with 144's all the time with my 121 just cause of driver ability. Granted, they were not experienced and on rentals, but ability does play a part. I would not use track size as an excuse not to go, you still will have fun.

When I first started going west all I had was a switchback 144x1 1/2 and a 136 Renegade with whatever it came with for track lug. we did fine. You will have to line poach now and then to follow the bigger tracked sleds but so what. You are still having fun. I also remembering struggling to get thru a pass with my 144 only to meet a very young guy on a 121 already up there and just ripping it up. Met up with him and his Dad at "happy hour" that night and became good friends with them. We can stop for you in Rockford.

I have gone west 3 times - twice on rental M's and once with my fusion. One thing l never considered was how little gas and oil you burn through out there compared to trail riding. That adds up. Had tons of fun each time out there, and I still suck at off trail riding.
