Completely agree, but you gotta start somewhere. New adventure we’ve been tossing around the idea of trying, just wanted to get some knowledge from those that have been there/ done that. Sorry if I offended.
Some sites have sled trails for GPS, though not sure if they do out west. I would imagine for IP/West Yellowstone they might.
A good piece of advice I received that works especially well at the snowies is, most trails there make loops. If you ride inside of that loop you cannot get lost. Sooner or later if you ride in a fairly straight line, you WILL come out to a trail. And since the trail is a loop, you WILL end up going the right direction sooner or later even if you turn the wrong way and have to take the long way around.
You could always backtrack on your gps. In Canada moose hunting we have navigated 15 miles back to camp in a boat at night with NO lights. Just had to go slow with GPS zoomed in. It was on a lake with hundreds of islands and peninsulas and large rocks.
I don't use my gps much out west riding, but I sure as heck mark where I leave the trail at, or the safety huts. Then it gets shut off and thrown in my pack. If I get lost, I have it.
