Roof shoveling

"I'd take NPSWI's advise, roll the dice and hire a couple yocals outta the bar to shovel my roof for some cash.....LOL"

You can hire "yocals" and save some cash if you wish. You also can hire a company with insurance and workers comp. I see it all up here and I understand "saving a buck". I guess this whole thread is about risks and how one wishes to manage them.

Again, regardless of how well your building is built, why would one wish to have the headache of a damaged structure when it is pretty cheap to solve the issues. As a property owner you should be smart enough to weigh the risks. As I stated before, I do not shovel 2' of snow off my house. My house is in an open area and also does not get piled on or get ice dams. If I had 30"+ on my roof I would remove it.

How do your men harness off?

Doing the rake today with "Thaw"! More than 2 feet up there!
"Thaw"...as in turning to water and self shoveling itself?

Somebody must have stepped on it...
...LOL....are you saying it would NOT have collapsed if there were shovelers on it?....LOL
That appears to be fairly new construction. The whole roof structure fell in as a complete unit, dropping on one side.
From the airial view it looks as if the contractor and inspecting agency did not see the trusses were not properly anchored at one end where it is attached to the neighboring business.

Sure glad me and no one else was up there shoveling when it went down....would any of you roof shovelers and roof shoveling contractors like to have been standing on that one?

Raking?...yur off topic....LOL
Rake tool of choice really not that difficult. My roof is too steep for any other approach....just remove ice jams & let the water roll.....still lots of snow up there but 1st 15-20' clear down to shingles both sides.:)

Was in Winter Wisc last week. Local guy in cafe said said 6 polebarn roofs had gone down just around there. They have between 3 and 4 feet of snow piled up on roofs there. When I built my house I was able to position it so the south gable end is pointed exactly south. There are no dormers or windows or anything on my roof. It is shingled with dark brown shingles. It is kind of a boring roof but it melts off very quickly in the spring just because of its design and placement.

Picture looks like the Konteka in WP. Was there a few weeks ago and was admiring their roof snow.

Yeah, that has to be the Konteka. I stayed there years ago with my son and part of the view out the windows was blocked by the snow like that.
