Which is better for summer storagein your opinion? I have been using stabil for years, however last fall had problems with bad gas..

Neither one has let me down for long term storage. I use seafoam all the time as gas run thru carb cleaner & only use Sta-bil for gas long term storage. Seafoam has more uses in IMO but both work well. Bad gas is exactly that bad gas & neither can make bad gas good gas.

My vote is for Sea Foam ,I have had real good luck with it for everyday use and long term storage. There is a new Stabil product out for marine environment (water) which is very expensive. Which should help with long term storage if condensation is a concern.

Another question - do you fill the tank all the way for the summer or try to keep it closer to empty? Or just leave it wherever it happened to be?

I run mine down to 1/4 tank first. Snowmobile fuel tanks are vented and the gas can lose octane in time. I will fill to half a tank following season run that out change plugs and am good for the rest of the season.

This is what you need:

This stuff is amazing. It eats the ethonal and will do wonders. I've watched it be put in an ATV that sat for 4 years, and the original 4 year old gas. The ATV wouldn't start at first, and in 24 hours, it not only started, it ran like it was new! Buddy had a sled running rough (Ski Doo 800), we put in a couple ounces, and 4 hours later, it ran perfect. No joke. The stuff is incredible.

I use seafoam, have for years. I put a full can in, then fill it up and let it run a bit to get the treated fuel circulated through the entire system. Then store it. I think the more important step is to syphon or drain that gas out in the fall, and burn it in your truck. START YOUR SLEDDING SEASON WITH NEW FRESH FUEL. This method has never failed me.

Good stuff keeps the ethanol from seperating from the gas. can be found at wal-mart in the R.V. section for about 8.95 treats 128 gals

I'm starting to think about doing this too. I stored my Vector with Startron last spring and for the first time ever had a plugged pilot jet this fall.

Suck the tank dry and run the engine out of gas? Not sure which way to go when I finally put the sled away. 'effin garbage gas!!!

grommerdave I have a construction business with quite a few different engines. Me & my kids have 3 outboard motors & 4 snowmobiles & I use sea foam in everything especially 4 storage. I keep my sleds in a heated shop & used 2 carry a bottle of heet with me when I went riding. Now I put a little sea foam in once in a while & I haven't had any problems with icing up. Bad part is it used 2 be about $6 a can now its about 9 & u don't save a real lot by buying it in a gallon.

I run most of the gas out of the tank and then add the sea foam, I believe its one ounce per gallon of gas, then I run it around the yard or lake to get everything mixed good and then I fog the motor and wash wax and grease the sled. I have not had any problems so far. I also try to suck most of the gas out and run it in the lawn mower or truck. I always start with a fresh tank of gas and after the sled has run a bit in the winter I change the plugs and go all winter, works for me

You can get sea foam at menards for $6.50 a can and if you watch the adds sometimes they have 11% off on everthing in the store, so I go in and buy at least 6 cans so at least. it helps alittle

For all my small engines like weedwackers etc I mix seafoam in every tank - low use - and try not to mix up more gas then I'll use in each season.

For the sled storage, both 2S and 4S I use seafoam, start it up and run it through the carbs, turn off the gas, run it out of gas, then siphon remaining gas out of tank. First fill for winter, seafoam goes in along with fresh gas.

For the boat (350V8) I have used the marine version of stabil the past couple of years which supposedly guards against phase separation, stabilizes the fuel and also cleans when used. I only leave 5 gallons or so in tank. Fill to the top with fresh gas first time out.

These methods have served me well for the past few years. The only issue I had was the 08 Vector, it didn't come with fuel shutoffs and so the first spring I didn't drain the carbs....plugged up the idle jets and had to pull/clean in the fall. Added fuel shutoffs the next year and no carb problems since.

I'm a big Seafoam fan and have been for many years. I used Seafoam during the season (still do) and to winterize/summerize engines for years. When I stored my Vector I used (supposedly) ethanol free premium and the Startron. Maybe the Startron loosed up some gunk in the tank....I dunno.

I hear you on the icing thing. In certain conditions I can just about count on my kids 98 Poo 500 icing up. I carry HEET with me at all times now.

sea foam

I siphon out the gas after the last ride of the year, burn it up in the car. I run sea foam through out the winter and have never had a fuel issues, even when the led sits for a few weeks to a month or more at a time. Works good in the boat for off season storage, never had a any dirty carbs in the spring!
